How would you like to turn your love of your country and hobby into a meaningful career?
Talking with Sri Lanka gave me a great idea I want to share to all of you.
We are all patriotic to our respective nations. How does it sound that instead of fighting we start cooperating. Turn our animosity & envy of other countries into respect & admiration. Turn our love of our country and our hobbies into a well-paying career. Interested? Listen more:
Sri Lanka is a journalist for a private SL company. During our discussion someone else brought up an excellent point that China is actively looking for foreign journalists. Then I started thinking. Many of us here are either students, retired or unemployed / underemployed. Many of us are competent enough with a camera, computer and writing. And many of us are natives or naturals in our own environment / countries.
Imagine being given the financial freedom, liberal freedom, intellectual-cultural freedom to express ourselves and share the beauty of our motherland. Imagine being able to travel freely and document (photos, videos, interviews, etc) the beauty of our land and its peoples --- shattering away at stereotypes while giving the world a glimpse into the lives of our ordinary peoples.
It is no longer a dream, but a REALITY! You can achieve this by being either a Freelance (Photo)-Journalist or work for a Chinese company. Here's what you need:
(1) Basic understanding of your home environment -- being able to come up with interesting stories and able to write / speak (if you are video correspondent) in your native language. Advantage of being a native is that you know your home turf and are able to freely around.
(2) Learn Chinese (written & spoken) -- inquire about Chinese language schools. The best place to start is asking for information at a Chinese embassy (all major cities in world should have one ) and go to a 'Confucius Institute' for lessons!!! (you can get certified in Chinese as a Second Language - CSL).
(3) Get yourself a small compact cheap netbook and a camera. I recommend these below as the best PHOTO + VIDEO cameras: You can buy a cheaper camera first and upgrade later. I recommend these because they are SUPERB in compactness, quality & performance -- they are even BETTER than DSLR expensive ones (trust me I collect cameras )

So instead of building up so much "Anti-China hate" you can channel it towards positive <your country>+China Friendship. You can be from ANY country --- China needs (and appreciates) foreign correspondents from ALL countries (big and small), be it Russa, USA, UK, India, Pakistan, Africa, Arabs, South America, Mexico, etc -- you are all wanted!!!
Take photos, make videos, write POSITIVE articles on the good things in China & your home country! Don't be a "hater" but a "lover".
