How would you like to turn your love of your country and hobby into a meaningful career?

Talking with Sri Lanka gave me a great idea I want to share to all of you.

We are all patriotic to our respective nations. How does it sound that instead of fighting we start cooperating. Turn our animosity & envy of other countries into respect & admiration. Turn our love of our country and our hobbies into a well-paying career. Interested? Listen more:

Sri Lanka is a journalist for a private SL company. During our discussion someone else brought up an excellent point that China is actively looking for foreign journalists. Then I started thinking. Many of us here are either students, retired or unemployed / underemployed. Many of us are competent enough with a camera, computer and writing. And many of us are natives or naturals in our own environment / countries.

Imagine being given the financial freedom, liberal freedom, intellectual-cultural freedom to express ourselves and share the beauty of our motherland. Imagine being able to travel freely and document (photos, videos, interviews, etc) the beauty of our land and its peoples --- shattering away at stereotypes while giving the world a glimpse into the lives of our ordinary peoples.

It is no longer a dream, but a REALITY! You can achieve this by being either a Freelance (Photo)-Journalist or work for a Chinese company. Here's what you need:

(1) Basic understanding of your home environment -- being able to come up with interesting stories and able to write / speak (if you are video correspondent) in your native language. Advantage of being a native is that you know your home turf and are able to freely around.

(2) Learn Chinese (written & spoken) -- inquire about Chinese language schools. The best place to start is asking for information at a Chinese embassy (all major cities in world should have one :) ) and go to a 'Confucius Institute' for lessons!!! (you can get certified in Chinese as a Second Language - CSL).

(3) Get yourself a small compact cheap netbook and a camera. I recommend these below as the best PHOTO + VIDEO cameras:
You can buy a cheaper camera first and upgrade later. I recommend these because they are SUPERB in compactness, quality & performance -- they are even BETTER than DSLR expensive ones (trust me I collect cameras :) )

So instead of building up so much "Anti-China hate" you can channel it towards positive <your country>+China Friendship. You can be from ANY country --- China needs (and appreciates) foreign correspondents from ALL countries (big and small), be it Russa, USA, UK, India, Pakistan, Africa, Arabs, South America, Mexico, etc -- you are all wanted!!!

Take photos, make videos, write POSITIVE articles on the good things in China & your home country! :smitten: Don't be a "hater" but a "lover".

nice idea..but post them where?
Heck my father just bought me a wrangler and i have a nice digital camera....I know my people and travel alot.????

Let me also add an important benefit.

Imagine the great amount of freedom to pursue areas of your country and topics that interests you. Let's just say for example you're in India. And let's say you want to share unique beauty of your home state. You can hop on a train, take a bus, fly on a jet.

You take beautiful breath-taking PHOTOS of your landscape, the beautiful expressions on your fellow people's faces, the colorful artistic poses of your traditional dances, and the vibrant markets and religious festivals.

That's not all, you capture all of this beauty in VIDEO. Then you go to interview a few participants to gather their personal views. Then you go back to your hotel (or home) to research more on the topic, then you write up some spectacular in-depth article to capture all of the above. Then you translate it into Chinese to share it with 2 Billion people.

And the best part of all is that you are being appreciated and handsomely compensated (something simple as this can be more than what you can earn in a year) to do something you enjoy -- and to top it off you are BUILDING BRIDGES OF FRIENDSHIP between two great civilizations!

And then off you go, to WHERE EVER YOUR HEART TAKES YOU.

Share the beauty of Pakistan with us! You already spend a lot of time writing on PDF, why not do something you like/love and make a career out of it?

Now is the BEST TIME because not many Pakistani Journalists exist (for China). You can first take photos / videos / articles in English or Pakistan and have someone translate to Chinese for you. Try to inquire at Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, look at xinhua and people's daily for contact information.

After a couple of gigs you save enough money and take Chinese lessons. It's a worthy investment!

Nice idea. But something doesn't smell right!

"Instead of building up anti-china hate...." ?
"Learn Chinese to read and write...."?
"Work for a Chinese company..."?
No way the OP just say that?

IMHO, stinks of typical commie propaganda BS, like peddling "soft power". For a start, lets see the Chinese members here post anything positive about other countries instead of raking up issues of poverty and mal-nutritution or even racial superiority!

Secondly why does a Chinese company want to collect images and videos and literature in local languages of other countries?

Lol, they don't even try to hide their intentions now? A very lame attempt at intelligence collection, if you may, and indeed shows desperation.

Thats what I think. I may be wrong and this whole thing might be genuine, but then I do have my reservations.

Indeed it is "Soft Power", but more aimed towards MUTUAL RESPECT & UNDERSTANDING of each other.

Whereas BBC and Indian Media is mainly focused on negative stuff, propaganda and the "stiff-upper-lip" attitude, China is GENUINE on Social Harmony.

There is a LOT of opportunity for foreigners. There are 1.4 billion local Chinese, so the competition is very tough. But there is a great need for many competent foreign news correspondents. The compensation will be internationally competitive, and the work environment is based on RESPECT.

Take for example our Mr. Sri Lanka. His positive attitude, eagerness & motivation, and knowledge of local & Asian news makes him highly ideal candidate.

Whereas a negative person who carries a lot of biased hatred-jealousy would not be suitable.

Hope you understand.
:)

Hey SINO INDUS (CHINA\PAKISTAN)friendship...........this picture is dedicated to u
Hingol ,Balouchistan,Pakistan....my Province

Perfect! This is the kind of stuff we don't see about Pakistan. Because you are a local Pakistani you know more about your country.

You have a major advantage over me because you are considered a foreign face. Did you know foreign news journalists make multiple times a doctor's or senior engineer's salary in China??? :)

I don't know much about the field of Journalism. Ask Sri Lanka or learn more at a Chinese embassy to get contacts and build relationships.

Best of luck!

Show me atleast one Chinese article which shows other countries in a positive light, and you've got me signed on!

I call propaganda BS. I know one when I see one.

Of course I understand. Your thinly veiled attempt at being sarcastic and passing a derogatory comment is not lost on anyone here, comrade.

There is precedent for collecting this kind of data. FYI, before WWII and Pearl Harbor attack, the Japanese had accumulated vast data on various groups/tribes of Indians in the US, including their habits and languages. Once the war started, US used the languages of the Indian tribes as their code and were surprised that the Japanese could decipher them. The Japanese used their knowledge of the various tribes' languages to decipher the US forces codes. Alas, the Japanese forgot to study the Navajo Indians, and as we know the rest is history.

Now, again, why is China intent collecting data on various ethnicities in the surrounding countries?

I think the starter of the toipic is just an internet illiterate..becoze most of the pics & details are thr in the net...maybe that...hez speaking behind an iron cage..and wants to see the world w/o the opaqueness of official CCP camers. and the chineese will soon block this thread from its citizens as soon as they know that its citizens are seeking & exchanging outside info thru this forum

errr. one question... who is hiring and going to pay the salary? :D

I am also hiring. I need a guy to walk my dog. Nice salary. A girl will do too.

How's that for friendship? :bunny:

How will be that if PDF will pay the members for well posts in every year or if there will be a award or lottery system for the folks?

How will be that if PDF will give certificate to the member for graduate in PDF? And members will get job in other forums by showing their certificates like "certified by PDF"?
