Hyper-nationalist Indian media embarrassing India globally

My comment was measured. Many Indians (including popular journalists) believe that Soviet tilted to China in 1962; specifically by delaying the delivery of MIG 21. This opinion is speculative in nature. The larger point in my comment is that Putin's Russia will not be an Indian ally against China. In fact, Putin cannot afford to be neutral in any future India - China conflict. China is India's primary enemy and therefore Putin's interests conflict with that of India.

Yes, we know about Sino-Soviet split. It is not exactly a secret.

PS: Try not to worry about where people on the internet live

your larger point is correct. russia is not going to choose india over china, not while china is far richer, has more influence, more technology, and is not antagonistic towards russia. Especially at this point with tough western sanctions, the only real relief is china. luckily for them, china isnt too concerned with russian deliveries to india, because even with all that's going on between them, china's target isnt india, its the us. if some jet sales to india makes some money for russia then so be it, those weapons sales aren't even close to tipping the balance between china and india anyhow, and if war actually happened then china can then pressure russia to hold off on spares and gaining an advantage over, if india had only western weapons as options.

and i agree, the mig delivery is pure speculation, one that i do not subscribe to. i highly doubt the soviets would slow deliveries of migs because of china at the time. even if prada called china brothers, the facts on the ground overrules some one liner in an editorial and facts on the ground were that diplomatic relations would soon be broken and they were already calling each other out internationally.

wow, arnab seems to be pretty popular here.
I have to disagree with the Lisbon guy though.
In this war the only winners are usa,uk and china. These guys get to increase their arms sales and sell their anti Russia propaganda.
India has to walk a tightrope diplomatically like many other countries, 20k students have their futures in jeopardy , economic shocks due to high oil Bills, etc.
China improves its profile as a responsible , stable state amongst all the finger wagging.
The Indian media is mostly confused. On one hand a tried and tested friend Russia, on the other a hapless country. No reason for them to support one version. Just report the facts on the ground. No need to editorialize.
The invasion is a over reaction without doubt. Putin has fallen for the American and British machinations and over committed himself.
I think for China there are opportunities but also significant dangers if we are looking at the long term. Russia is China’s strongest ally so if it gets destabilized or if Putin is overthrown and replaced with a neoliberal puppet, then China will be next and totally isolated. Also the war interferes and endangers the belt and road initiative as well.

The biggest winner in this conflict is the US. The biggest loser is the EU.

then China should influence Putin to stop the ongoing destruction and just satisfy himself with retaining the Russian dominated provinces.
It's such a unnecessary war.
Bad for Ukraine, bad for Russia, bad for Europe and for the whole world.
And the potential for the war spreading is pretty large with countries like Finland and norway tilting towards NATO.

Sadly, many Indians (leaning to the far right) are not rational to come at this understanding. You'll find them talk BS like "Russia helped India in need", "Russia is India's best friend" etc. They continue to believe that the Soviet assistance to India in 1971 has more to do with 'friendship' and not merely mutual interest.

While on the other side of the isle, the far left in India is as always critical of the imperialist US and by default align against it. But I'm able to understand them better because they are almost always naive

Russia is going to do what Russia is going to do. China is trying to mediate to produce a peaceful solution that works for both sides but Russia feels very threatened and considers Ukraine its historic territory so it will act based on its interest.

support for Russia is across the whole spectrum. Russia has come to our aid on so many occassions that it's a natural reaction from India.
