Media is a big joke and the biggest reason why people have stopped watching TV in most of the homes, its just the elderly who watch news because they mostly remain free. Social media spreads more real news when its called a fake news haven while mainstream media houses are the biggest source of fake news here which get debunked on social media.

My respects for the Lisbon gentleman. He said it like it is.

All of Indian media is siding with Ukraine in this war, opposite of the official government stand (which though technically abstention, actually amounts to supporting Russia). I feel they haven't thought much about it and are going with the prevailing international civilian mood, which is anti-war and therefore projects Russia as a villain.

Actually the government is pretending to support Russia but it is siding with NATO. For example, there was an article posted in the war mega thread yesterday about the SBI bank in India which is government-owned, banning transactions by Russian individuals and organizations sanctioned by USA, EU and UNO. SBI also advised other Indian institutions like oil companies to check any Russian interaction and essentially end it. Here is the Yahoo article.

As for the Indian media, well, most toe the government line so there must have been government instruction to these media agencies like AajTak, Republic and ABP to cast Russia as the villain and glorify the Zelensky government and not mention even the Nazis connections of Zelensky government let alone speak of its lies.

Interestingly enough, he did not utter a word while being berated by a gora. "Bheegi billie" is what comes to mind. Anyone else of color trying to talk sense to him would get interrupted countless times with AG shouting over them. Jahalat-fest is what I call his programs.

The Indian media is mostly confused. On one hand a tried and tested friend Russia, on the other a hapless country. No reason for them to support one version. Just report the facts on the ground. No need to editorialize.

You are right. I follow that approach too. I wasn't exactly very open minded in my younger days. In fact, when Babri masjid got demolished in 1992, I used to hang out with a group of right wing Hindu friends, who were right wing only because BJP was the fashionable new party that time. When the news appeared on TV, I exulted. My father who is a Brahmin and a religious one, gave me a tight slap and told me that it was nothing to feel jubilant about. That day I really started wondering why my views were what they were. I used to hang around with more of the same people.

Gradually I started actively seeking opposing views and then it became a habit. I became more left-of-centre in my views and eventually one who doesn't tolerate any bullshit of any kind. For me now the opposing views are of the Hindutva kind, and I do try to listen to them, but they can be very shrill and dominating in the way they put their point across.
