Hyderabad Girl, 16, Married To 65-Year-Old Oman National For Rs. 5 Lakh

.
Different standards for different civilizations.
Different modern laws you mean. Whats the minimum age for girl to marry in India?

A 65 year old marrying a 16 year old girl is as unappealing as a very fat man marrying a slim girl or a short man marrying a tall girl or an ugly man marrying a beautiful woman. But they can marry.

Its 18 if I am not wrong according the child marriage prohibition act of 1929 in india. The marriage age of a female is 18 and male is 21.

For a valid marriage consent is must and according to her parents consent was not received but how did they take her to oman and the pictures.

Never the less. At 16 the girl was a minor and could not marry due to legal restraint thus the marriage is invalid.

In pakistan apart from sindh ( which passed the law for 18) all are 16 but at least kpk and Baluchistan legislators are trying over there.

It should be 18 in Pakistan, it will help in the reduction of population growth rate

Agree completely but CII is against it. Heck those moulvis were against restrictions in the first place. I remember a bill being introduced in NA sometime ago for legal age being 18 and the arguments for it were pretty strong along with the argument that since driving licence, CNIC, complete adulthood in pakistan is considered when a person reaches 18 so why not for marriage especially when in pakistan marriage is treated not as a sacrament but as a legal contract between two consenting adults.

But alas the bill got criticism from all sectors including from the party introducing it and it turned into Islamic battle where the bill was called anti Islamic despite such a bill being passed in sindh assembly.

I remember hearing that PTI also is trying to introduce this bill in kpk but don't think Imran is interested anymore.

Heard nothing from Punjab assembly.

Heard talks in Baluchistan assembly but not sure.

Over all seems hard to pass. Maybe after 2018.

Child marriage in Pakistan isn't that common anyway unlike in India.

Pakistan marriage by age 15: Pak 3% vs 18% for India.
Marriage by age 18: Pakistan 21% vs India 47%
https://www.unicef.org/publications/files/SOWC_2015_Summary_and_Tables.pdf

Just like selective baby girl abortions and open defecation this is another India specific cultural problem.

Even war torn Afghanistan does better then India.

Afghanistan married by age 15: 15% and married by 18, 40%

Bangladesh is worst which clearly mean this is cultural as Indians are more closer to Bengalis culturally and racially then Pakistanis.

Bangladesh married by 15: 29% and married by age 18, 65%

India is a country of different religions.

But only one religion does Mut'ah and Misyar.

And not just in India.

Hope that clarifies.

I just got a WhatsApp forward on some Maulvi racket regarding nikka halala now.

Cheers, Doc
all of the above have been banned by religion actual school of thought, let say for example its not banned than the central govt responsibility is to ban it
this is simple case of human trafficking, and the responsibility purely lies on central/provincial govt
the problem is not related to india, Pakistan, bangaldesh, srilnaka and especially nepal also suffer from it but saying indian govt has nothing to do with it and its a issue of religion is shameful, last I check Nepal isn't a Muslim country

.
Exactly.

And India is not the only country where this happens.

So it's clearly nonsense to paint it as an Indian cultural.thing.

As if 1.3 billion Indians go around selling their teenage daughters to geriatric Arabs.

Cheers, Doc
Hindu women didn't even cost a penny when "Arabs" were ruling India for a 1000 years. Isn't this what you people teach your children about your slave history under Muslims? If you subscribe to that narrative then it seems like an Indian problem.

You've not been following the discussion.

The central government has no jurisdiction in Muslim personal law in India. Constitutionally.

These practices are practiced in India UNDER Muslim personal law. Sharia.

Cheers, Doc

What we have grown up learning is that the ones who didn't cost a penny became Muslim.

Of course that was a long time ago. Such things happen in war and subjugation.

Especially when facing newer militant faiths ....

@padamchen why are you trying to become a "Sanghi" in this thead. When we say these things you are quick to jump at us shouting Sanghi Sanghi?

Is this a Mukhouta or the "Secular" version a mukhouta?

He is an anglicized parsi and is more christian than parsi. He is just unaware of his true beliefs and practices since he has never bothered to examine them.

So his hate and contempt for muslims is more than his hate and contempt for Hindus.

His admiration for christians stems from his "social" training as a christian (much like the "secular" hindu) and he believes his christian VALUES are 'secular' and "modern".

As a matter of fact zorashtrian religion advocates being a full Vegetarian like Hinduism. There is Particular restriction on the eating of milch animals particularly the Cow.

For all practical matter's, he is more christian than a Zoroastrian. But like all "secular" folks, he is blissfully unaware of it. That is what generations of sucking up the british produce.
