Hybrid wheat successfully harvested in Pakistan: Global Times

. .
Sehar was is a good seed introduced by fasilabad university it gives good yield and sells easy. The mills don't buy old seed because it gives less content in grinding and is harder but farmers still cultivate it for personal consumption and they store it them selves. Almost every farmer has the old seed. The yield is less for old seed but it is healthy to eat.

The problem with Sehar is that it gains too much height and crop can fall in high winds.
There has been many hybrids before this but they have not been able to beat the production of the seeds introduced by fasilabad university and they died out eventually.

Many years ago, as a kid, I use to go to our lands in Sialkot. Sometimes there was wheat being grown, and other times rice and canes and so on. The wheat crop had such beautiful smell coming from it, the rice had such a nice smell. When it rained, the soil gave out such a fantastic smell that I have never smelled it anywhere else.

And now when I recently went back, it is as if the land has lost all that beauty. No more beautiful smells - the wheat crop looked as if it was artificial with no smell originating from it. The same soil now appeared to depend on manufactured fertilizers to give some life to it.

I was sad that all that beauty had disappeared. It is a sad state of affairs.

Whatever environmentally friendly will get the green light from Imran. So don’t worry.

Yep use of pesticides is the very reason of losing that beautiful smell. In old farming practices we use to give our lands a 6 month rest but now instead of rest just use DAP and start cultivating.
The best thing is to use organic fertilizers.

Organic fertilization from poop. Tasty!

Non of it is 'our own'. Since the British arrived in 1849 almost everything has been introduced from abroad. To begin with we had the British begin the irrigation projects which transformed large parts of Indus Basin into green fields when it had mostly been semi-arid desert. Then places like Faisalabad Agriculture Institute began work on new seed cultivars which of course increased production of crops. The process was not static. After independence revolution in agriculture continued, By 1960s Americans had taken the lead and in Ayub's time Pakistan went through the 'green revolution' when new hybrids were introduced under US programmes. And today that continous process to improve and keep abreast of the latest technology continues. Only now it is the Chinese taking the lead.

If we want 'our own' we would need to go back to the time of Ranjit Singh and the Sikh Empire. And if we did Pakistan would starve.
Punjab was known as a bread-basket region throughout history. It's agricultural productivity was one of the highest in the world.

Guys this is need of the hour ... our farmer is getting crushed due to non adoption of tech and genetic engineering...

These hybrid crops are diseases resistant and quadruple your yield and that means 4 times even more income ...

Export generates premium foreign exchange...

Dont keep sticking to traditional things just for fcking sake of it

This is crap...our own what is the best..
open your mind

Genetically modified (gm) technology with the essence of the traditional technology is by getting good genes of genetic improvement, therefore, the transgenic technology with conventional breeding technology combine closely, can cultivate high quality, high yield, high efficiency, greatly improve the efficiency of improved varieties, and can reduce pesticide and fertilizer inputs, in alleviating resource constraints, ensure food security, protect the ecological environment, developing agricultural function has huge potential.

In 2009, 134 million hectares of genetically modified crops were planted in 25 countries.
The United States remains the largest grower of biotech crops, with 64 million hectares planted.Brazil followed with 21.4 million hectares.Argentina, 21.3 million hectares;India, 8.4 million hectares;Canada, 8.2 million hectares;China, 3.7 million hectares;Paraguay, 2.2 million hectares;South Africa, 2.1 million hectares.

Luddites. Was it for some we would still be using ox to plough, plant by hand, harvest by hand, pull weed by hand, etc etc.
