Chinese telecom giant Huawei has registered a trademark for its homegrown operating system (OS) "Hongmeng," a confirmation of the company's longtime efforts to achieve technological self-reliance.

The detailed information, which can be found on the website of the Trademark Office of China's National Intellectual Property Administration, shows that the application was submitted on August 24, 2018, and the valid term of the trademark is from May 14, 2019 to May 13, 2029.

Earlier this week, Richard Yu Chengdong, head of the company's consumer business, revealed that the homegrown OS is likely to be launched as early as this fall and no later than spring next year, according to media reports.

This comes as Google cut off Huawei devices from its Android OS following a U.S. order banning the sale of American software and components to the company.

Huawei is reported to have started developing its own system since 2012.

The new OS, which is being tested, will be used as a universal operating system for multiple platforms including smartphone, computer, tablet, TV, cars, and smart wearable devices, Global Times reported, citing Richard Yu.

It will also be compatible with all Android apps and Web apps and come with its “App Gallery,” according to Yu.

But Huawei also sees the challenges.

"It's not a difficult task to come up with a new OS, but it's difficult to build up an ecosystem for that," Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei said during an interview on Tuesday.

Currently, Google's Android and Apple's iOS are the two prevailing operating systems for mobile devices.

People with their simplistic minds conveniently forget that China is a country of 1.4 Billion people. Meaning 1.4 Billion potential customers. Anything outside of China is pure bonus for the Chinese companies. Out of more than 7-billion people living on this Planet, 4.5 Billion live in Asia where Chinese mobile handsets are in great demand. End of the day, it is all about the PRICE and Quality that these companies can offer their products. Apple and Samsung are overpriced products, and will eventually loose. That is why Huawei will eventually win in Asia

I hope it does not turn out to the down fall of Huawei like Symbian and later Microsoft windows turned out to be for Nokia.
Hongmeng will surely take a long time to gain the confidence of customers and come at par with Android. It's not that easy. I think, hongmeng gonna fail to do so.

申请日期是2018年8月24日,注册公告日期是2019年5月14日,专用权限期是从2019年5月14日到2029年5月13日。
The application date is August 24, 2018, the registration announcement date is May 14, 2019, and the exclusive right period is from May 14, 2019 to May 13, 2029.

Huawei's OS integrates mobile phones, computers, tablets, TVS, cars and smart clothes into one operating system.In addition, huawei OS is compatible with all android applications and all Web applications. After recompiling relevant android applications on huawei OS, their performance will be improved by more than 60%.

Huawei has been planning its own operating system, known as hongmeng, since 2012.

Yu chengdong, President of huawei's consumer business, also said on social media that huawei's own operating system (OS) could be available as soon as this autumn and as late as next spring. Huawei's operating system will also be compatible with all android applications.

华为的手机芯片,取名麒麟;
华为的PC处理器芯片,取名鲲鹏;
华为的人工智能芯片,取名昇腾;

This OS will keep Huawei in business in China and Asia.
Huawei needs to expend massive effort to create an ecosystem for this in the rest of the world and the jury is out on whether it will succeed.
The other massive task that Huawei has is to replace ARM with it's own SOC architecture -this it will definitely be able to do but will take years to accomplish.

The Hongmeng OS has been described by Huawei executive as more advance than current iOS and Android OS. I foresee they will release a beta version in August/September to match current Android versions plus some new features with strong AI and 5G capabilities.

Going by the innovative Huawei folding phone and P30 Pro achievement, current level of AI and 5G technology usage in everyday lives of China, and more than 700 million registered smart phone users (3 times more than USA), how could anyone said Huawei is failing?

Temporary loss of Huawei phone sales in USA and US dominating European countries will be partially off set by the loss of sales of foreign brands (Apple and Samsung) to Huawei in China as Chinese users are switching in mass to Huawei to support Huawei against the bully by Trump and his neocons.

The #1 killer app worldwide is Microsoft Office. Any OS that MS Office supports is likely to succeed. Any OS that MS Office doesn't support is unlikely to succeed. Huawei will need to either get Microsoft onboard or else everybody will end up using WPS Office.

Meanwhile, a side news on Malaysians support for Huawei.

PETALING JAYA, May 24 — Things haven’t been great for Huawei following a ban sanctioned by US president Donald Trump in an ongoing trade war between the two countries.

The ban forbids US companies from doing business with the Chinese tech giant and could have huge implications for future Huawei device owners.

In an attempt to console Huawei users in Malaysia, SS2 Chinese restaurant TNR by Sean & Angie are offering diners a 20 per cent discount on their entire bill from May 27 to May 29.

“Huawei users get 20 per cent discount from the total bill. Dine in only promotion from 27th to 29th May 2019, terms and condition apply,” a post on the eatery’s Facebook and Instagram read, accompanied by the caption, “Show your Huawei power.”

Excellent!!!
I know there are a lot of Chinese in east Malaysia.

A sales executive just asked me if I want an American express card. Then thought about Huawei and declined it right on his face.
