The man whose surrealist artwork led to the creation of Ridley Scott's Alien has died. HR Giger, who was 74, died in hospital in Zurich after suffering injuries from a fall.

Giger, who was born in Switzerland in 1940, was best known for depicting cold, futuristic imeages marrying human bodies and machines. He worked in black and white, mainly using airbrush.

Legendary and influential but controversial artist.
