Featured How Turkey became one of the world’s leading manufacturers of weapons systems

Well, Turkey and China are cooperating, "Uighur problem" card is played by US, not Turkey since Turkey is not capable enough to intervene China. Turkey and China are natural allies geopolitically.
Turkey didn't buy HQ-9 because we didn't agree to transfer technology --- Erdogan wants to buy the technology in 4 billions, there is no such bargain in the world. We have transferred B-611 and T-300 technologies for the green-light of our CV-16 through Turkish strait.
BTW, "copied S-300" beats real S-300 in bidding.:p:

If you are our natural allies (Chinese wall), why not a tech.trans.? And why is $ 4B too little for the transfer of a slowly aging technology?
What do you mean by
'B-611 and T-300 technologies for the green-light of our CV-16 through Turkish strait.'

Americans have tens of allies, do you see they transfer many technologies? They do have given some license building rights to other countries, but it is not a full transfer, just some assembly work. No producer will grant full transfer to other countries unless you paid enough or they badly need you.

It is about our first aircraft carrier. We bought it from Ukraine, and it had to pass through Turkish strait. Turkish government did get much benefits from us, including ToT of weapons.

ToT Artillery/Weapons? Any sources? What else benefits?

At least, the technology of T-300, we transferred our technology of long-range rocket artillery.
Economically, we agreed to open tourism to Turkey, which added much to Turkey's income.
There are many other items and mainly economic. In short, we were extorted:(

not your technology ...... We got Soviet technology via China
almost all Chinese weapons = Soviet-Russian technology from Missiles to Fighter Jets and from Tanks to Warships

Russia Angry At China For Copying Jets And Naval Ships (What Will Be Next)

With deep respect I'd like to remember three Merhum Turkish President/PMs with engineering backgrounds - Suleyman Demirel (Civil Engineer whose passion was in huge dam construction, irrigation, transportation etc. projects), Turgut Ozal (Electrical Engineer with passion for high tech) and Nejmettin Erbakan (Mechanical engineer with passion for tank engines, automotives, heavy industries etc.)....

All were the batch mates at the Istanbul Technical University in the mid to late 40s, and were conservative nationalists in various degrees!! And, they understood and supported the Turkish Military Industrial complexes...

Ruhlariniz shad olsun...

We mastered it, then it was our technology. Anyway, Turkey got strategic technology from China only with letting Vayrag passed Bosphrus, what a deal:p:

We got the damn tech and TOT from China so stop bickering. It’s embarressing to see.

We’re not allies with Ukraine so no TOT of engines which was during obamas time.

Let’s focus on developing our own stuff, instead of whining.

We got the knowledge and can develop it further

my friend, it's primarily about speeding up these processes :) there is no question that we can develop things ourselves!

How did they promote Turkey's military complex? apart from expanding the dependency - do you have any sources of development at that time? projects etc? asking for a friend lol.. just joking - but seriously - I've no knowledge about the developments back then

Turkey's defence industry is indeed impressive but it's too integrated with the West and will be interesting if they will be ever free of it. The Muslim country that impresses me the most, in terms of indigenous weapons development, is Iran. For a country that is under sanctions, it has found a novel way to maintain its current weapons and development of its own technology.

When sanctions are lifted, I can see the Iran defence industry take off.

Prof. Dr. Nejmettin Erbakan, being a junior partner in the coalition government in the mid 70s, was instrumental in the establishment of ASELSAN..

Turgut Ozal, being the PM, initiated the local production of F16s. He supported and guided the establishment of the Bilkent University, where the R&D of III-V semiconductor devices (GaAs, GaN etc.) started after the top Turkish professors returned from the USA, Europe etc. Now, these devices are the fundamental building blocks of the high frequency and high power transceivers used in EW, AESA radars etc...

After the collapse of the USSR, President Ozal brought in a large number of ex Soviet professors, especially from the Muslim republics, to the Turkish Universities paying them world class wages. Their specialty was in the soviet era defense projects involving optoelectronics, electromagnetics etc...

President Demirel kept on supporting all these initiatives...

How can it be that the Turkish defense industry has stagnated for about 60 years? Is there an explanation for it - if even as many projects were pursued and invested as much as in the past 10 years? Serious questions...

Too much political uncertainty, weak leadership, in-fighting, periodic coups, stratified society (rightist vs leftist, nationalist vs communist, religious vs secular etc.), weak economy coupled with the deep financial crisis after crisis, too many traitors under the Imperialists payroll etc...

My alma mater, for example, lost many brilliant engineering/science professors, research students etc. after 1980 coup...

Well, by HIS GRACE, Turkey has survived and is now kicking hard...

Getting access to western Tech because they joined NATO which bombing Muslims everywhere .

What has changed since then? Has turkey become more independent? Is the current system, the current government more constant in its endeavors? Have we been able to eradicate the deep state?
Do we, therefore, have all these foreign policy problems and stones in our way?
