Interesting. So 20 years ago, it must have been more difficult to marry someone outside of your caste. Is India hgng to eliminate caste all together?

I really really wish... But Alas!!! See Ranjeet's replies above.. If not for social reason, for political reasons it will be very difficult to eliminate it for at least few decades... The cast system is linked with government reservation system for the backward casts, classes like Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Cast or OBC. These reservations applies to School/ College admissions, Govt./ Semi Govt (Public sector) jobs and host of other benefits. For this reason, the ones declared as backward class themselves do not want to reverse the situation. Most importantly, any political party in power, who tries to touch these reservation and cast system will undoubtedly commit political suicide..
