What's new

How is the F-16 when compared to JF-17s ?

. . .
:rolleyes: Unbelievable...As if 'Vigorous Dragon' is an American name. Can your sucking up be any more obvious?

Vigorous Dragon is actually the name added by the West. Just like NATO code names for the Soviet Aircraft and Missiles. In China it is called "Annihilator" or something, maybe our Chinese members can add up and clarify.

If you don't have anything constructive to add, why do you have to spam and be sarcastic?

They were discussing the missile launch warning system, maybe you could help and add to it.

Blk 52s are definitively more advanced than CURRENT jf-17 but not in every domain. One system is not present on blk 52s and its there in jf-17s (it is also on rafale, f-22 and eurofighter). It is called "Missile launch detector". This system displays information on HUD, MFD, calculates exact time to impact, activates appropriate counter measures and provides vital assistance to pilot in critical times. This system is absent on any F 16 variant till today.

Nabil, clarify on the system if you have any links.
Also, what Countermeasures are we looking at? Because Chaffs and Flares are already there and have mixed results with missiles.
Modern IR and Active Radar guided missiles are whole lot more complex to jam and evade.

Interesting, are you able to provide details? Where is the sensor located? Does it provide 360 deg all weather coverage?

This video is the best evidence of MAWS, Missile Launch Detector at work, look as threat is displayed at HUD as well as MFD and TTI is also shown on both, also notice 4 targets tracked once switched to TWS mode. Many interesting things to note in this video. It is old and posted before but worth watching again.

I think we need to open a thread where we compare jf-17 with all the Aircrafts in world. What is wrong with us man. Every week we see anew thread with jf-17 comparison with gripen, f16, su 30, mig, etc. Please stop this nonsense. Hum ne ek jhaz kiya ban a liya lagtaa hai zameen as man ek kar Diya. All beg all my **** brother please stop doing this on weekly basis. I hope I did not offend anyone.
Thanks

Structure & Avionics

The standard avionics fit for the Block 50 includes:

Honeywell H-423 Ring Laser Gyro Inertial Navigation System (RLG INS) for rapid in-flight alignment;
GPS receiver;
Data Transfer Cartridge with a larger capacity (128KB) to accommodate the planned avionics growth;
Improved Data Modem for faster data transmission;
AN/ALR-56M advanced RWR;
AN/ALE-47 threat adaptive countermeasure system;
digital terrain system data transfer cartridge;
cockpit compatible with night vision systems;
advanced IFF interrogator;
Upgraded Programmable Display Generator (UPDG);
MIL-STD-1760 data bus for programming new-generation PGMs;
Horizontal Situation Display (HSD) for increased situational awareness and tactical flexibility on all missions.

Isn't it just a RWR? AFAIK it only works when the launcher has a lock on you and does not when he fires ARH misssiles in Track While Scan mode.

Block 52 doesn't have a MAW. Does MAW tell the exact time to impact? I'd imagine it's passive system with no means of telling the distance and speed of an incoming missile.

Correct a lock will trigger the RWR, recall the F-16 shot down in Serbia the SA-6 operator turned on his radar 5 seconds before impact any sooner and the launcher may have been detected and neutralized. Once the missile is in the air it can be detected by the APG-68 radar in RWS-SAM mode within a 120 deg in front of the aircraft's nose. In RWS-SAM (Range While Search – Situational Awareness Mode) the APG-68 will detect all targets as quickly as possible, the pilot can then switch to RWR-SAM mode, this will add a line to the yellow contact square indicating the heading of the contact while displaying closing speed and distance. The AN/ALR-56M on the wing tips and fin detects RF signals and serves to warn the pilot of threats attempting a track or lock.
