interesting how Hindiáns (with Indian govt backing) are desperately trying hard to replace Tamil with Hindi in Singapore as 1 of the 4 Official languages - the others being English, Mandarin and Malay

How can we replace Tamil with Hindi as one of the official languages of Singapore?

It’s already happening.

The Indian government has responsibly nudged the tiny island state into replacing Tamil with Hindi.

The tamil diaspora is a tiny minority in Singapore (6.9%) but they are a threat to Hindi nonetheless. Only a systematic approach can help remove this dying language so we may put Hindi in its rightful place.

Language Policy and Indian Languages in Singapore

Less than 50% of Indians in Singapore spoke Tamil as of 2011. Their numbers are already dwindling as they are considerably less educated than their peers.

It’s a decrepit language that is mostly insular. Even Singaporeans do not appreciate Tamils (local or otherwise) as you can see from this article:

The politics of Tamil as an official language

You might also notice that Ambassadors of India are always appointed from North India and almost never from South (never from TamilNad) unless they know Hindi.

This is so they don’t misrepresent us abroad and always persist on spreading greatness of the Hindi language and our culture.

There is access to Hindi language classes, bollywood movie showcases and yoga classes on almost every Foreign Mission and Consulate of India.

what did i just read..

I guess, what the writer meant was less educated in Tamil, which off course is nonsensical

Hindián have not contribution anything in S E Asia, all contributions (past and present) were by Tamils. Shameless Hindiáns have the nerve to hijack Tamils achievements (e.g like trying to replace Tamil with Hindi as Singapore's official language) using majoritarianism or Indian govt's influence.

super pawa India should ask Singapore to make Hindi the 5th official language, why infringe on the rights accorded to Tamil with Hindi ?

Militarily powerful Singapore is not Sri Lanka or Nepal !! Tamils are needed to act as a buffer between the Malay-Chinese hostility in Singapore and Malaysia

‘Jaffna holds special significance for Singapore’ – Singapore Foreign Minister

“Jaffna holds special significance for Singapore given our strong cultural and people-to-people ties,” said Dr Balakrishnan in a Facebook post following his visit. “This has evolved from the early days of government administrators to present day institutions such as the Singapore Ceylon Tamils' Association. Some of our pioneer leaders in politics, education and medicine had hailed from Jaffna.”

On Wednesday (July 19), he met the Northern Province's Governor Reginald Cooray and its Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran, who shared insights into the development of Jaffna and the ongoing reconciliation efforts since the end of the 26-year civil war in 2009. It has been estimated that tens of thousands of people were killed in the civil war between the government and the separatist Tamil Tiger rebels.

He said he also visited the Jaffna Teaching Hospital and the University of Jaffna Medical Faculty to launch the Orthopedic Development Programme spearheaded by SingHealth and the Lee Foundation.

"This is personally meaningful for me as I have had the privilege of learning from outstanding doctors of Jaffna origin during my days as a medical student. "Glad to see Singaporean entities giving back and contributing to improving the healthcare of Jaffna," he wrote.

Keep the fight my friend. I am surprised by your passion for Tamil extending Indian boundaries.

When south India prospers, north will find a reason to learn Tamil. You can get away not knowing Telugu in Hyderabad but it is difficult not knowing Tamil in Chennai. You guys are true dravidians.

Unfortunately, the power of Hindustani has been the backing of a large illiterate poor population. They won't learn anything else.
Southies otoh learn different languages.

Prosperity is a double edged sword.

What a joke of a thread.
What Singapore wants only they can decide. India does not have any say in it.

Be it Tamil or any other Indian language, all are ours and we will be happy with any of them.

from my sources - in the early 2000s India requested Singapore to replace Tamil with Hindi as it official language - the reasons 1) Hindi is widely spoken in India 2) widely used in Indian business etc. But Singapore govt politely refused India's request. (unable to provide source)

this is confirm by the anonymous poster

Congress was in power for 70 years, ask them.

Exactly why we have kicked them out. I promise you that in next 70 years of BJP rule we will definitely have few Tamil HC for Singapore. It's a promise. Hopefully based on this grave injustice from Congress, don't ever vote for them..ok?

Tamil is a hideous language. It sounds like a bunch of rocks being rattled in a tin box. The sooner it is replaced by Hindi the better.
