How can someone avoid a Torpedo Attack?

So it seems the best weapons against Carriers is a Wake Homing Torpedo.Am i right??

i think still defence market has to do alot to counter torpedo i think in naval warefare their is no big detstruction than torpedo becoz if torpedo strikes its target its vertually imposible to target to repair it

How can someone avoid a Torpedo Attack?

Perhaps some members experienced in naval warfare might add in some insight , seems like Torpedos are like instant ... destruction:coffee:

Hi,

If you read fiction---I can refer some books. Any recent fiction regarding submarine warfare will give you a lots of insight.

In the movie 'Hunt for Red October', the Red October actually avoids a torpedo attack by turning into the torpedo, thus causing the torpedo to hit the sub before it became armed. The torpedo simply bounced off, leaving the sub unharmed.

Dunno if it'll work in real life though.

might work, but keep praying that it doesn't armed itself before hitting u!

How about submerged lasers ? do these babies work under water as accurately as they do above sea level ?

well i stilll think there are no anti torpedo system which have sure killl rate

AN/SLQ-25 NIXIE
The Torpedo Countermeasures Transmitting Set AN/SLQ-25A, commonly referred to as Nixie, is a passive, electro-acoustic decoy system used to provide deceptive countermeasures against acoustic homing torpedoes. The AN/SLQ-25A employs an underwater acoustic projector housed in a streamlined body which is towed astern on a combination tow/signal-transfer coaxial cable. An onboard generated signal is used by the towed body to produce an acoustic signal to decoy the hostile torpedo away from the ship. The AN/SLQ-25A includes improved deceptive countermeasures capabilities. The AN/SLQ-25B includes improved deceptive countermeasures capabilities, a fiber optic display LAN, a torpedo alertment capability and a towed array sensor.
Modern acoustic towed decoys, such as the AN/SLQ-25 NIXIE and the older T-MK6 FANFAIR, employ electronic or electromechanical means to produce the required signals. The system provides an alternate target diversion for an enemy acoustic homing torpedo by stringing on cable a "noise maker", aft of the ship, which has the capability of producing a greater noise than the ship; thereby diverting the incoming torpedo from the ship to the "fish". The towed device receives the torpedoes ping frequency, amplifies it 2 to 3 times and sends it back to lure the torpedo away from the ship. They may be used in pairs or singularly.

Or you can go with the Metcalf solution the only way to protect high value units is to position a frigate astern of them, as you can imagine a solution not well recived by the frigate comunity.

or maybe they can release a dummy target like a tow array sonar

lol CIWS?

If it can be angled to shoot downwards. Assuming the torpedo does not travel too deep underwater, and is also much slower than missiles. Integrate it some how with active sonar.

Maybe an anti torpedo torpedo?

CIWS cannot be used to destroy incomming torpedos. it is used for ir borne targets!!

regards!

till know defence industry have failled to produce something against torpedo which is ausum if it hits targets it stays hit and impossible to repair as well

Quite a few ships have survived torpedo strikes e.g. in WW2. However, the smaller the ship (e.g. frigate, corvette), the lower the chance.
