What's new

How Bangladeshis view Pakistanis today?

We do have common amongst ourselves more than any other place on earth.
Food, culture, language, clothes, arts, music, sports and much more. 6 decades of messed up history is not going to erase centuries old bond no matter how much you deny.

What! You've got to be kidding me. What do we have in common with any indian?

FOOD? No we have very little commonality in the food we eat or the way we prepare the dishes.

LANGUAGE? No we speak a different language, Bangali spoken in Bangladesh is different to bengali spoken in the rest of india, and that difference is widening each year. Forget any other indian languages....hindi, tamil, punjabi etc.

MUSIC? No we listen to music from all over the world, and local artists...not specific to india.

RELIGION? No, Bangladesh has a majority sunni muslim population with a minority hindu population of less the 1 in 10. India on the other hand has 8 in 10 hindu population and a nationalistic communal hindu government in power.

CULTURE? First define to me what is culture, then ill tell you if it matches.

We have no centuries of "bond", get over it, we have very little in common apart from colour of our skin. You have your country and we have ours, build and improve your nation....let us build ours, Bangladeshis aren't your brothers, cousins or what not.

true, bangladesh is not India, there are many differences.
Which country is closest to bd in culture in your opinion? Dont say None, we are all different but there is bound to be a degree of similarity between say a chinese and bangladeshi.

was there any difference before 1947?

Yes, there was differences prior to 1947, differences in spoken bengali between western and eastern bengal have always been around even before the british arrived, just ask any of your own country men, from west bengal. Now that we are different nation entirely, that differences is widening. The same with most other aspects, food, music, arts and then there is the massive difference of religion, we are not the same never have been and never will be.

Like I said first define by what you mean by culture. What do you mean by similarity? I am sure there some similarities between a chinese and a Bangladeshi, both need to eat foods, drink water, breathe air etc. The same similarities between a indian and a Bangladeshi.

you can answer as per your definition of culture. Which one is the closest in your opinion?
I for example find thais to be more similar to me than say americans. Both are completely different from me, but its only a matter of degree.

. .
I have always found Bengalis to be very friendly towards Pakistanis, and trust me, being in a Londoner I have encountered many.

. . .
I see resentment in your words than truth. If you have travelled in India(or pakistan), or met Indian/pakistanis (which am pretty sure you have), the similarity is obvious.

I am sure he has met many Pakistanis & Indians he is right there is hardly similarity with Bengolis.

Now what similarity does he or you have with me and am Pakistani too.

Culture is very hard to define, being subjective the definition of culture will very between each individual. How i define my culture will be very different to the person next to me, it subjective, a combination of a multitude of factors specific to that person in time.

So saying this I can only give you my subjective opinion, as a Bangladeshi (well half Bangladeshi) i feel a commonality to another Bangladeshi, (and to a lesser extent English/Dutch). Though i have traveled throughout the sub continent, i dont feel any more connection to say a indian or pakistani then i would to a japanese.

.
Its your question about culture, so first define exactly what you mean by culture?
no, the danger of doing that is we will be arguing about what is culture and not answering original question. This is very normal way to sidetrack the question, go pedantic about definition. (the old reddit trick :) )
So use whichever you fancy, if you heard about English word 'culture' am sure you have some sort of idea about its meaning. I am saying I will agree with whatever your definition is.

Ah, fine, English/dutch it is then. (the closest). I just wanted to know your view, not really want to argue.

Yes there was so before the Central Asians and the Brits there were many many countries which you can't say was now just India and pl spare me your dharmic Bull.

may be not much... its all a matter of degree.. :p:

.
Bengoli people are normally pro Pak and friendly and if they know you are Pukhtoon that normally gets you even more respect as many of them claim some connection to the geniune articles.

It can change though, depending on which family member i am annoyed with Dutch or Bangladeshi...oh just to add a fly in the ointment right now i hate punjabi hindus...until the morning.
