How Bangladesh rose to become a mobile manufacturing hub

Fake account of @Nilgiri. Joined today after earlier accounts got permanent ban. Same nonsense and spamming again and again.

Yep I noticed that.

Remember when he used to make fun of Walton exports being less than 1 million US dollars a year? Last fiscal it was near 20 million US dollars and this fiscal Walton may breach 100 million US dollars.

The idiot can just google Walton videos where they show TV panels being moulded from scratch. It would just take him 5 minutes to find but he does not want to believe the truth.

As already mentioned, Walton pretty much makes everything for mobile phones apart from the SOC(System on chip) and the cameras.

At least memory modules may be coming soon for TV's and other appliances as well as cellphones/tablets. They are going to invest in either NAND or DDR ram manufacturing - which will also mean SSD's can be made as well. But better not trumpet something that hasn't happened yet.

SoC or MOSFET imaging chips are harder (more expensive) to set up production facilities for. Even China imports those I believe.

Here is video that proves Walton makes it's TV panels below:

I think with TVs that Walton just does not make the SOC and they use Android software and everything else is inhouse.

Let the butthurt become even more severe for some.

Long way to go. Too much dependent on Chinese imports.

There are no clear indication the true value addition. I dont think its even 25 percent.

Thanks for the video. :-)

These Hindutva cockroaches will never believe that other South Asian countries other than India can become technologically better than their country. Especially a Muslim one.

That whole propaganda angle is meant for the consumption of semi-educated Pujaris.

Narey Bhai, Value addition is more than 25% of total value if screens. injection molded housing and main motherboard for TV's is made from scratch locally (the latter uses wave soldering). I am fairly familiar with these processes from my work experience. You don't use wave soldering if you import motherboard from China. And like @UKBengali bhai said, you can clearly see LED screen production.

I can vouch they even make the self-drilling screws that go into the assembly of their electronic appliances. As they do on parts made using their foundry (specifically parts for motors and compressors). They are using robotics for assembly jobs too, which is unprecedented in most Indian factories even (because of cost concerns). Walton is in another class.

In any case - some parts will probably still be sourced from China, until cost/benefit makes sense to produce those in Bangladesh.

Walton now seems to think they can export 3 billion US dollars by 2025.

Yes that is THREE BILLION US DOLLARS just in exports within 3 years from around 100 million US dollars this year.

2-3 years ago, I would have just laughed at them but if you look at the state of their current technological level, superb management that includes a former CTO of Samsung, regulatory approval to sell their products in pretty much all developed countries then it seems a possible if ambitious realistic prospect.

I do not think they will match Samsung/LG by 2030 as they hope but they are likely to be just below them in the pecking order. You will have Samsung/LG/Sony and then Walton after.

What is the percentage of value addition to the manufacturing by different companies in Bangladesh? That would be interesting to know :pop:

Walton - in areas like TVs, fridges etc then we are looking at 80%+.

Laptops less so as they need to import chips, memory modules, ssds etc.

Walton even exports compressors for fridges to Turkey who in turn use these parts to make fridges that are on sale in Europe.

It's CTO used to have this position at Samsung

Yes, manufacturing compressors is impressive. Just googled about export numbers, I could only find target for $100 million for 2022. But sure about 2020 or 2021 numbers though :undecided:

They are already far ahead this year of the target of 100 millon US dollars of exports for fiscal 2022 and that is why I said 100 million US dollars for 2022. The 2022 exports numbers are the BD fiscal one of July 2021-June 2022 and not this calendar year.

Likely to break it by a fair amount unless exports suddenly stop - in fact they are accelerating the process as they have just launched into new markets like Ireland and Georgia(?).

What are the 2021 numbers?
