Turning Arjun in FMBT

mbt-arjun1.gif

1. a tank is made of hull and turret.

2. lets assume Arjun hull weighs 35 tons and turret 25 tons.

3. DRDO can turn Arjun turret into unmanned ( like that of T 95)

4. Unmanned turret will be at least 40% smaller than regular turret.

5. hence it will weigh 40% less. ( 15 tons)

6. DRDO can fit this turret, equipped with ultra high quality systems, on modified Arjun Mk 2 hull.

Result

India gets FMBT weighing 50 tons.

That will be a newer version of Arjun like mk II, not FMBT. FMBT is not about less weight. FMBT will be a new tank all together. All new technologies and systems. Also if you look at IA requirements for FMBT it is not just enough to upgrade Arjun.

Last year there was conference in India where future of MBTs was discussed. There were experts from US, Germany, Israel etc. All of them suggested that India's FMBT should be be based on Arjun. At that time IA wanted a smaller and lighter FMBT (50 tons) which would be a complete whole new design (expected to be based on Russian designs).

Everybody in the conference thought it to be a bad idea because MBT development needs decade of research if you building your own and after developing a good platform if you switch to a whole new platform, it will be stupid idea.

This idea was of the head of armored corps at that time. Right now we have a different person heading armored corps and now everything has changed. IA is also thinking of purchasing more arjun mk2 if it performs well.

But the best thing right now is that the previous idea is put on hold and now everyone is evaluating arjun as a platform for Indian Army's FMBT and there are now many supporters. IA might not even ask to reduce weight.

I think DRDO should work to develop new materials and use nano tech as said earlier by them to reduce weight of FMBT without making much changes to the main design.

By the way FMBT is supposed to be just an evolution of capabilities of Arjun MK2 , with 50 Tons of weight instead of 60 Tons of Arjun MK2

This tank will replace some 1300 odd T-72 starting 2024
Some of the earlier T-72 being replaced by Arjun MK2 and T90M

Future Tanks.

Stealthy for raddar, infrared, ultraviolet etc.
Should be of two class one fire shell other missiles speed 100 km, camouflage to hide from background
Network centric. communication complete.
its own Netra Uav which only communicate with tank and surrounding coverage.

special class with no turret only 50 nimrods or advance distance missiles with capacity 36 km to 150 km.

36km available nimrod
150 km with cruse like harpoon missile and when target near distruct the same.

Why do we always have to do the next step, before we finished the current one? Arjun MK2 is not ready developed or available and we talk about changing it to FMBT? :what:

FMBT is going to be a completely new concept which will have to be a lighter but a more effective tactical tank. It will have NLOS features and that requires significant projectile processing BMS which Arjun doesnt have. It ill have the capability to transfer and receive target co-ordinates and also be able to fire advanced top attack weapons. It has to be stealthier with and apart from UAVs and UCAVs it should be able to talk to ICvs and IFVs for advanced thetraical roles.

So it cant be an upgrade from Arjun.

He is just asking Sancho-). But I know what u are saying.

sir mk2 is ready with many modification and trials are going on

And we know how much trials means in regard of Indian forces and indigenous developments. ;) Let them start production and induction of the tank, before they move on. Same for LCA and AMCA, Rustom and AURA...
