How and why is Bangladesh better off than Pakistan today?

Bangladesh actually lost its independence to India, looking at the Indian infringement in BD affairs, kind of a client or a vassal state.

So it's a found and lost...

And that country gained independence from India in 47...
Only true independent state in the world is USA. China and Russia are mostly independent. All other sovereign states in the world in one way or another are beholden to these states. Specially the United States, it reserves tremendous economic, political and military advantage over others. It can even ruin the economy of China and Russia due to it's control of international monetary system.

India can't ruin Bangladesh unless it directly invade, capture and destroy, but USA. So, Bangladesh's independence has a limitation just like Pakistan and most of other countries.

The entire business, industry, finances, media, education, transportation, real estates, health, construction etc. of BD are controlled by the Indian Marwaris via their local Bangal agents and cohorts. Indian "experts" can work in any sector - both government and private - without any permissions or regulations whatsoever. They officially remit 10b$ to India per year....

BD's public education and services are destroyed via politicization to such an extent a medical grad can't even study a simple X-ray report....

If you're not from the ruling party you can't even open a corner store....

The top floor of BD Military's HQ building is occupied by RAW, and no Bangals are permitted there....
10 billion Dollar remittance to India is a huge exaggeration loved by Bangladeshi people to tell Indians, you would be naive to believe that. Actual remittance lies within 1 to 2 billion Dollar. It is for good reasons. Many Indian educated and skilled people are working in Bangladesh and helping it's export sector. Not only Indians, a lot of other nationalities are also working in Bangladesh.

Indians have some FDI in Bangladesh like many other countries, but that does not mean our business, industry, finance are controlled by Marwaris. In fact India have much less economic footprint in Bangladesh than China, Japan and EU. You seems to have wrong idea about FDI when it comes from India!

If Indian marwari control our media, how come there is no indian media house establishing newspaper in Bangladesh or opening any TV channel? How come Hindi and other Indian films are banned in Bangladesh?

Can you show me any evidence that our real estate and construction business is dominated by India? These are 11 top real estate companies in Bangladesh.
All I see is these are established and run by native Bangladeshis. Where are the ''Marwari connection'' here? Can you reveal to us?

Similarly, where is the Indian connection in our education sector? Do we have any Indian branch of their university, school or colleges in Bangladesh? A big No.

It was a hilarious hyperbole that our Medical doctors can't even read X-Ray report. Where did you found this gem? I hope not from a Tamil guy who was a resident troll in this section even a few months ago.

Provide evidence. This is a serious allegation need serious evidence.

Contrary to your fantasy-

The article is written by a Pakistani guy for a Pakistani newspaper. BDeshi members just post whatever news they think is relevant for the country, don't create threads out of the blue.
I don't recall where I said that the article is written by a Bangladeshi?

And I have relevantly posted the blatant truth even though it's more criticizing towards my own motherland. Because I want my country man to see things as they are.

No Marwaris in BD.
In the old days the Marwaris did a lot of trading in Dhaka pre partition. Definitely not now

Well some of you guys are not affiliated with the Chamber of Commerce.

There may not be Marwaris in Bangladesh, but Aziz Muhammad Bhai's family was originally from Guzarat. There are many Guzaratis (mostly Muslim) leading some large businesses in Bangladesh. Colorful character.

And there are a few Persee families too. India has Tata/Godrej. We have the Ispahanis (originally from Isfahan, Iran).

Ispahanis cannot be compared to Marwaris. They have set down deep roots in here and are basically Bengalis by now. Very high class law abiding educated people who run a tight ship, just like multi-nationals.

The Proprietors of Samah Razor blades were not originally Bengalis either (Maybe from India).

1. Does any Pakistani wish Pakistan was Like Bangladesh
2. Does any Bangladeshi wish BD was like Pakistan

Probably a "NO" to both.

But cooperation and trade is needed.

Why should we enrich India when we can trade with Pakistan and enrich Pakistan (and vice versa)?

A questions to ponder for all.

No worries bhai I'm just referring to the stories about my family frequenting abdullahpur in Dhaka and going to every exchange shop and finding Marwaris

How and why is Bangladesh better off than Pakistan today?

How and why is persistent d**k measuring between Bangladesh and Pakistan necessary?
Both are backward, corrupt, big talking nations with severe institutional deficiencies.

If you want to compare, compare with countries like S. Korea, China, Japan and Singapore that have "made it" and not with each other.

There are also a handful of Marwaris, around 20-25000 mainly in North Bengal. Majority are beginning to marry Bengali Hindus. They are middle class, and hardly have influence unlike in West Bengal where they virtually dominate the economy.

These are Pakistani hangover. You know, during Pakistan period, most of our industries owned and controlled by West Pakistani and Indian Muslim businessmen who migrated to Karachi. Even after independence some of them continued to do business in Bangladesh. But their presence in Bangladesh progressively diminished. Now you would not find any Marwari under Bangladeshi citizenship opening any major business. I don't care whether Indian FDI investors are Marwari or not.

Bangladesh is a country located in southern Asia. The country is bordered by India to the east, north, and west, and by Myanmar to the southeast. Bangladesh has a population of over 160 million people, making it the eighth most populous country in the world. The capital and largest city are Dhaka. Bangladesh is one of the poorest and most densely populated countries in the world. The economy is largely dependent on agriculture, with nearly 60% of the population engaged in subsistence farming. The country is also plagued by political instability and corruption. Despite all of these challenges, Bangladesh has made significant progress in recent years. The economy has been growing steadily, and poverty has been declining. Bangladesh is now better off than Pakistan in several key ways. First, Bangladesh has been more successful in reducing poverty. Between 2000 and 2010, the poverty rate in Bangladesh declined from 44% to 31%. In Pakistan, the poverty rate actually increased from 34% to 36% over the same period. Second, Bangladesh has achieved greater progress in gender equality. The country has made strides in improving access to education and health care for women and girls. The literacy rate for women has increased from 54% to 64%, and the maternal mortality rate has declined from 322 deaths per 100,000 live births to 144 deaths per 100,000 live births. Third, Bangladesh has made greater progress in reducing child mortality. In 1990, the child mortality rate in Bangladesh was 165 deaths per 1,000 live births. By 2013, that rate had fallen to 47 deaths per 1,000 live births. In Pakistan, the child mortality rate fell from 176 deaths per 1,000 live births in 1990 to 86 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2013. Fourth, Bangladesh has achieved greater progress in reducing hunger. The prevalence of undernourishment in Bangladesh declined from 34% in 1990-92 to 18% in 2011-13. In Pakistan, the prevalence of undernourishment actually increased from 21% to 23% over the same period. Fifth, Bangladesh has made greater progress in expanding access to electricity. In 2010, only 22% of Bangladesh households had electricity. By 2016, that figure had increased to 58%. In Pakistan, the share of households with access to electricity increased from 18% to 35% over the same period. Finally, Bangladesh has made greater progress in expanding access to clean water. In 2010, only 39% of the population had access to improved drinking water sources. By 2016, that figure had increased to 84%. In Pakistan, the share of the population with access to improved drinking water sources increased from 36% to 55% over the same period. Besides other sectors, the Bangladeshi real estate industry has made significant progress through the contribution of top-class local real estate companies in recent years, despite being a poor and densely populated country. The country has been more successful than Pakistan in reducing poverty, expanding access to education and health care for women and girls, reducing child mortality, and reducing hunger. Bangladesh has also made greater progress in expanding access to electricity and clean water.

Marwaris living in present-day Bangladesh have come here many decades or even many centuries ago. They have assimilated themselves with the locals as you said. So, we cannot just denote them as Marwari anymore.
