This is a "Defence Forum" where military matters are discussed. I can see how some think their views or the way they present the information is distasteful but are not necessarily wrong from a technical perspective (unless it is proven otherwise), just presenting ideas (maybe I am just not as emotional and not empathising with your perspective). It depends on how you interpret their message. Do you suggest members avoid talking about military scenarios? What else is the purpose of the military but to project power, intimidate, destroy and protect assets. How would you propose we structure a military comparison that is more productive?
I propose that we conduct these conversations without derogatory references about each other's nation. As simple as that at the basic, ground level. As for the rest, you have pointed out that this is a forum where military matters are discussed. Let us discuss military matters. Period. Where is the scope for referring to another nation as a naked, hairless mouse? Is that an appropriate reference to military matters? Or is that a glaring instance of arrogance?
Personally I won't bother with such a comparison between China and Singapore. Not my cup of tea. I am more of an economics/technology/development kind of person.
Wholesome, appropriate and commendable. Were you personally the subject of a complaint about arrogance, and about rudeness and discourtesy? No? Then we have no point of contention.
If your view of Chinese and China are based off forum members then I suggest you get out and experience things first hand rather than through this medium.
You can weigh that by the fact that I referred this disgraceful behaviour of some utterly immature members to those whom I consider the balanced, dignified and representative members. If I did not think that they were different, and that they would get the point, would I have bothered?
You will see from that, that there is a difference in perception between those who are seen as gutter scum, and those who are seen as peers and people with whom it is a pleasure to converse.
Buy a plane ticket to China. Though I can understand the lack of alternatives due to geographic confinement for some. Don't be confined to the virtual world my friend.
I am 68. I cannot jump around like a chamois, from peak to peak of excitement. Besides, I am committed to visit Pakistan first, and encash all my dues. There is a considerable number of members whom I wish to meet very deeply, who have a place in my mind and my heart. There are comparatively fewer Chinese members; my special friends, with whom I have had very detailed discussions even on sensitive topics, with no hurt given or taken on either side, around four years ago, are no longer active, although they remain members.
Tell me, what are Indians and others "beginning to wonder about China and the Chinese"?
If there is much to the pack that is different from the pack that constitutes the fringe elements (pardon my mixed metaphor) in other nationalities. It seems not to be so.
I am very happy with the contents of my post, and I do not see any reason to explain to anyone and everyone why I have brought this, that or the other to the notice of some serious Chinese members.
