Evey day there are cases of Honor killing,
People are instigated for killing there own loved ones by the society.
what kind of society it itself is transforming into.
there are some cases where even the educated people indulge in this kind of activity.

This should be stopped but the laws are not enforcing that people can be made scared of it.

NRI held for suspected honour killing in Punjab

AMRITSAR: A non-resident Indian (NRI) will be produced in a court here on Wednesday following his arrest on Tuesday night for allegedly murdering his teenaged step-daughter in a suspected case of honour killing.

Mehtab Singh was arrested after the police got a tip-off that he had brought his step-daughter Amritpal Kaur, 17, from Brussels, Belgium, earlier this month and clandestinely cremated her here after saying that she died of food poisoning.

Police officials said the death of the girl seemed to be mysterious and that the step-father had shown undue urgency in cremating her.

The police are investigating if the girl was killed by Mehtab Singh as she had fallen in love with a youth, Lakhwinder Singh, in Belgium.

Lakhwinder belonged to another lower caste and this was not to the liking of Mehtab Singh. He is believed to have poisoned her a few days back and got her cremated.

The victim's mother, Rajbir Kaur, had married Mehtab a few years ago after her husband, Mehtab's brother, died.

An annonymous letter triggered 'honour killing' in Punjab village

PATIALA: Punjab police on Sunday arrested Sarabjit Singh who allegedly on Saturday killed his sister and brother in law at Gajjukhera village near Banur in this district. Their only fault they loved each other but belonged to different castes. .

Police sources said that Srabjit Singh himself surrenders before the police late last night. He had confessed his crime and said that somebody of village has given a letter to him that her sister was pregnant and he will become 'Mama' very soon. The letter instigated him to commit the crime, he told the investigation officer.

The couple's gruesome killing once again points to the grim reality that tolerance for inter-caste marriages in rural Punjab is still very low. Punjab also has the dubious distinction of having lowest female sex ratio in the country due to female foeticide prevailing in rural areas.

Salwinder Kaur, a Dalit from same village, had fallen in love with Suresh Kumar, a Khatri boy two years back. While the deceased boy, Suresh Kumar, died on the spot, the girl succumbed to her injuries at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) at Chandigarh.

Though the marriage of both had led to tension in the village between both communities for some time, ever since their return both had been staying with the family of the boy without any trouble.

The couple had earlier approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court to solemnise theor marriage. They had however later refused to get police protection beliveing that things have sattled.
