Homes of Christians burnt

Get rid of these blasphemy laws. Its so easy...........just accuse the non-muslims of insulting the prophet or quran (doesn't have to be true and in many cases isn't) and you have a bunch of self-righteous Pakistanis burning down the non-muslims houses. Its a good way of abusing and pressurizing the non-muslims. Its just so easy. Such an intolerant and ignorant society :tsk:

We are seeing the effects of the Zia-Ul-Haq generation stamp its dominance and pass on its mindset. Hope that man never rests in peace.

These self-righteous Pakistanis are bunch of idiots with low knowledge of religion.

in most of the cases this is used an excuse either to grab the land of the other party or some other such worldy intrest

These idiots should be draged to court and hanged in public

Punjab government has failed miserably to protect the Christians. No one should be allowed to take Law in his hands. Bad mark on Pakistan’s face I would say.

How would that help. Vigilante mobs do not care if there are specific blasphemy laws in force. All they do on an act of rumour that the Quran has been descreted by non muslims, then they attack impulsly.

It seems more like a law and order problem. Hopefully the criminals are caught and charged for murder !

TOBA TEK SINGH: A mob burnt 75 houses of Christians over the alleged desecration of the Holy Quran in Azafi Abadi at Chak 95-JB on Gojra-Faisalabad Road, 32 kilometres from here, late on Thursday, Christian leaders said.
Christian leaders Atif Jamil Pagaan and Ashfaq Fateh told a press conference that 75 houses were burnt and two churches ransacked by the residents of a neighboring village over reports that Mukhtar Maseeh, Talib Maseeh and his son Imran Maseeh had desecrated the papers inscribed with Holy Quran verses at a wedding ceremony.

Dawn learnt from sources that 50 houses were damaged when the mob in a frenzy of rage held a jury where Talib Maseeh was asked to offer apology over the incident.

Talib, however, denied the incident and refused to offer apology. In the ensuing developments, hundreds of the people attacked Azafi Basti.

Before the arrival of the mob, the residents had fled which gave a walkover to the mob which put on fire 50 houses. The ablaze also burnt a few cattle.

District Police Officer (DPO) Inkisar Khan fielded MPA Bilal Asghar Warraich and Maulana Noor Ahmad to calm down the mob. The DPO also suspended the Gojra Sadar station house officer at the demand of the mob.

The mob blocked Gojra-Faisalabad Road to block the entrance of fire brigades to the village. Federal Minister for Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti and Punjab Minorities and Human Rights Minister Kamran Michael visited the locality on Friday and urged both sides to remain peaceful.

They said the Christians would be compensated for their loss. Minority MPAs Rafiq Pervaiz and Khalil Tahir Sandhu also visited the village.

DPO Inkisar Khan said a case has been registered under section 295-B of the Pakistan Penal Code against Mukhtar Maseeh, Talib Maseeh and Imran Maseeh without any arrest.

Local ulema and traders demanded the arrest of the accused and announced a complete strike on Saturday (today). Former MNA M Hamza condemned the violence against Christians as well as the alleged desecration act. In a press statement, he demanded a judicial probe into the incident.

Labour Party leader Tariq Mahmood, National Workers’ Party Punjab Secretary Rana Azam, Labour Qaumi Movement’s Shabbir Ahmad and Kissan Committee President Chaudhry Fateh Muhammad condemned the violence.

Interfaith League

Expressing his anguish over the violence perpetrated by communal forces against Christian minorities, Interfaith League chairman Sajid Ishaq says it is condemnable to make religion a basis for committing violent acts against humanity.

He said that nation was trying to build a peaceful and stable society in Pakistan and such attacks hindered any progress in this regard.

He demanded that the thugs who carried out the attacks be strictly punished so that no one could dare again to commit such a crime.

I strongly recommend that the accusers should be asked by the court to prove their claim. If they fail they should be given death penalty.

The presence of pages of the Holy book outside homes or shops of non-Muslims is no proof.

Its simply blackmailing.

That law helps the police turn the blind eye to such situations. It might not make sense to you but it would if you understand the lethargic and pathetic Pakistani police. Given the way Pakistan is, many times even the police has been known to back of and just watch such drama. When Pakistani law justifies action against people who commit blasphemy, it becomes a little easier for the Pakistani police to overlook such actions against non-muslims.

laws are made to be handled by law enforcements agencies. it is a crime that people take laws in their hands. 2nd, its the work of people who themselves have little knowledge about their religion and holy book

Agreed except the death penatly part. There needs to be strict action against these people. It will set a good precedent. It will make the minorities realize that they are safe and secure in Pakistan because the state is there for them.

I still support death penalty for such people who accuse others without any proof and then attack and kill them in the name of blasphemy.

Its not just the issue of minorities but these idiot self-righteous so-called Muslims can blam and implicate anyone even other fellow Muslims in blasphemy cases.

there are example where Muslims were implicated in same case just to grab their land or settle some score.

It is very easy for anyone in Pakistan to accuse the other of blasphemy.

This is not acceptable in Islam. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) had never ever punished anyone even when many infidels abused him and mistreated him.

Under Shabaz Sharif punjab govt was and is always weak. Not long ago when CM Shabaz S was hiding from the terror of Riaz Basra and later few poor villagers killed this terror of punjab. Anyway its a shameful act and need to give shoot at sight order. Islam never said a crime of single person and punish the whole community...
Need suo moto action ,wake up CJ.

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Six Christians, including four women, were burned alive in clashes with majority Muslims in a town in central Pakistan on Saturday, officials said.

and

Rana Sanaullah, provincial minister for law, who is also responsible for security matters of Punjab, condemned the attack and said an inquiry had been ordered.

However, he said, a preliminary investigation showed there was no desecration of the Koran. "It was just a rumor which was exploited by anti-state elements to create chaos," he said.

Six Christians burnt alive for no reason except bigotry of the perpetrators.

Under Shabaz Sharif punjab govt was and is always weak.

Nawaz League has strong connections with sectarian and jihadi outfits whose influence it uses to elect itself in various areas in Punjab. In return it has to show leniency towards them and keep a blind eye towards their activities.

The Supreme Court should take a suo motu action in this regard if Mr Iftikhar Chaudhary truely wants to show he is a neutral person.

No SCoP should stay out of it because this is the job of the Punjab govt. and the Punjab Police.

Pressure should be on the Punjab Police to capture these culprits and Punjab govt. should make sure that their losses are compensated.

Last but not least, a proper investigation should be conducted to verify the blasphemy claim and punish the person(s) responsible for it.
