Hollywood's Grip On China's Movie Audience Is Fading Fast

Yep, but those HK popcorn movies are just as bad as the Hollywood ones.

We need to promote the authentic Mainland movies, not those from HK and Taiwan.

Ya, and no one wants to see the kind of movies that you want to promote.

From all your postings you seem to be a die hard communist fan, forgetting the millions of people who had to die due to disasterous policies of the Communist pre-Deng era.

HK movies or Taiwan movies are nearly non-existent these days. All top3 movies during golden week are mainland movies.

Totally true. The movie sphere of Mainland, HK, and Taiwan, have integrated.

But he didn't really mean HK movies. What he actually want was "Authentic Mainland" by which he presumably means the Communist style shows of old. The "Red" movies.

By suggesting such, he is trying to destroy, and stop, the resurgence of Film Making in China.

Take the example of Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe 15%, 3D, Chinese (8th day, 577 million yuan)
it is distributed by LeTV(a video website), directed by mainlander, cast from mainly mainland and some from Taiwan. It's not just about movie, mainland soapies now are the most popular in Taiwan and HK.

Concerning Tiger, he is a well-known leftist in Chinese websites. I respect his political stance, no matter it's left or right, they all can live in China and make a contribution with their own ideology.

Absolutely. I have no problem when you speak things. The problem is when you refuse others the right to let them speak, and glorify, even recommend another Cultural Revolution, a time which set back China by 10 years.

I think China should have pretty robust freedom of speech laws. This doesn't mean that there can be no restrictions. You can surely send people against unity and territorial integrity in prison. But the limitations should be few, and only for the most extreme offences.

On an unrelated note, can you tell me something about Minyang hi-tech industrial park, and the companies situated there. I tried googling, but not enough information.

I never recommend another cultural revolution but maybe a revolution against western agents like Novia.
But India definitely needs a bloody revolution. People there are like sheep, they can easily surrender to foreign masters without resistance. That makes your society stagnant and socially backward.

Dunno what is Minyang.
U should create a new thread asking it.

The college brat should stop lecturing us here.

And now it is your midterm period, instead of spending the time to troll on PDF, you should spend more time on studying.

Critics like to point out that China’s movie market is manipulated by government authorities bent on promoting local films at the expense of imports. Most Hollywood movies are given second-rate release slots, shorter runs, and less opportunity to market and advertise relative to domestic Chinese movies.

I do hope the critics' qualms are all true and will be the trend for the foreseeable future -- until Chinese productions grab some 90-95% of the domestic market.

China can also require foreign (US) productions to set up majority-Chinese Joint Ventures if the production is to be given a normal status. Otherwise, they should be heavily regulated.

I guess India is a lost cause. They missed the manufacturing train.

And they missed the social engineering train.

Now India is a third-rate humanitarian disaster in South Asia with lots of media manipulation and populism.

Until now, the hollywood movie Inside out is given 10.14%(14,532) of total plays today, but only gets 6.45% of box office.

Chinese cinemas have already given Hollywood opportunities. Today the box office of Inside Out is even smaller than a crime movie called Saving Mr. Wu.

We are just more interested in the beautiful scenery of Kunlun Mountain in the tomb digging movie than hockey teams in Inside Out.

I for one ceased to watch Hollywood craps 15 years ago in 2000.

On another note, it has been over 2 years since I last watched a domestic film in a cinema.:D
Watch Goodbye Mr. Loser!

If I ever watch Hollywood production, I watch online. It is nice because I fast forward if I find some parts boring or quit watching entirely or watch in intervals between studies for rest. At times I watch a movie in three days.

Hence, even for once in my life, I have not paid and watched a HW production.

Even the latest releases are quickly available online for free if one knows where to look :)

I watched a number of Greater China products in movie theater.

But not a big fan of cinemas, really. I am happy with TV so that anytime I want I can turn off. Also, commercials give a nice break.
