lol, that was quite long ago, I have heard of them when I was still in China, and that was in the early 2000s and late 90s.

The Chinese name of these drugs are called 丧尸药 (Zombie Drug) or 浴盐 (Bath Salt) Actual name called 甲卡西酮

I cannot find news online that far, instead I had found a News report from 2011, stating the drug dealer have been making and dealing Methcathinone (a from derived from Cathinone which share the same structure of Flakka) as early as 2009

该案缴获毒资8000万元，图为其中4000万元现金。

日前，在公安部的统一指挥下，安阳警方侦破一起制贩毒品大案，缴获毒品2.8吨，现金56麻袋，共计8000余万元，连同存款已达1亿多元。案发落网前，两名犯罪嫌疑人就躺在八千万巨款上睡觉。

贩毒 每千克700元买1.4万卖

据办案民警介绍，此案牵扯面极广，其毒品源头在天津，制售在河南、山西、江苏、安徽等地，吸毒人员主要在山西的长治市。

经初步查证，2009年12月份以来，犯罪嫌疑人崔艳云夫妇通过安阳市北关区中原化玻站经理张宝良、张宪军，天津利安隆博华医药化学有限公司的业务经理常华已被抓获，先后以每千克700元的价格购买甲卡西酮共计15.7吨，后以每千克14000元的高价贩卖给山西贩毒人员，转手赚了20倍的利润。

“20倍的贩毒暴利，仍难以满足崔艳云夫妇对金钱的欲望”。安阳市公安局禁毒支队二大队大队长李峰说，崔艳云夫妇因嫌从天津进货价格高，他们想进一步降低制毒成本，获取更大的利润空间，这才又通过张宝良，找到汤阴县的袁某试制甲卡西酮，因袁制造出的甲卡西酮质量太差，才没有达成交易。

而就是在这次试制毒品的过程中，才暴露了他们制售毒品的行踪。

现金 三四十人连续清点两天

“我当了多年银行行长，每年经过账面的钱不下几个亿。要说一次性看到这么多的现金还是第一次。”安阳一家金融机构负责人感叹说。

当56麻袋现金被运到安阳市刑侦支队后，安阳警方请来三四十名银行熟练职员，对缴获的现金进行了现场清点。8000多万元现钞，成堆堆放在那里，30平方米的地板上铺了厚厚一层。这种情形令见多识广的银行老职工也感到惊诧和壮观。

李峰说，在清点现金时，安阳市公安局为保证现金的安全，对整个清点过程进行录像，清点持续了两天，仅录像带就录了二三十盘。

心病躺在八千万现金上睡

“8000万元的现金，要用农用拖拉机拉运的话，要装上满满一车厢。这么多的钱，既让犯罪嫌疑人崔艳云和丈夫李五只心动，又让他们感到不安。有钱的烦恼在他们两口子身上体现得淋漓尽致。”李峰说，据犯罪嫌疑人交代，他们先是把钱藏到安阳县老家一个破旧房子内，崔艳云和丈夫李五只两人就睡在钱箱上，躺在巨额现金上睡觉。可这样的日子过了一段又会让他们产生不安全感，他们就雇农用拖拉机或机动三轮车，再次将钱转移到新的地方。

买房子买黄金买股票

“金钱太多了咋花，成了他们夫妻的心病。”据安阳市公安局禁毒支队队长安群清介绍，崔艳云和丈夫李五只两人在从事贩毒前做的是药品销售，收入颇丰。

可从事贩毒后有了巨额现金，他们先是在银行存款，开始时存在自己名下，存多了担心露富，就开始存在亲戚、朋友的名下。又担心存别人名下被侵吞，就又开始买房子，也是一开始以自己名义买，后来就以别人名义买。接着又改买黄金、基金、股票等。

怕露富心理越来越重

更让常人不能理解的是，随着两口子的钱袋子越来越鼓，两人怕露富心理也越来越重。办案民警举了一个令人啼笑皆非的故事。以前，在过节时，二人走亲戚买两只烧鸡。如今两口子拥有现金8000多万，连银行存款过亿元，却为了不露富，走亲戚时的烧鸡压缩到了一只。

李峰曾问崔艳云，一般生意人有了几百万元都会感到很满足，你们有了几千万元，为何还要继续贩毒，崔艳云回答说，他们也曾有见好就收的想法，但看到毒品销路很好，就想再干一次再收手吧。就这样，一次一次地干着，像着了魔一样，欲罢不能，难以收手。

据安阳市禁毒委副主任兼禁毒办主任、公安局副局长胡文立介绍，甲卡西酮是一种新型毒品，该种毒品之所以能从天津顺利流入安阳，是因为人们对这种毒品的毒性还不了解，仅把它当做普通药品进行销售。

实际上，“甲卡西酮”是一种精神药品，百姓俗称“土冰”“筋儿”，因其吸食后能使人更有精神，比毒品“面面”更有成瘾性，蔓延的态势比较明显。据大量吸毒者交代，“筋儿”的成瘾性极大，吸食后，不思茶饭，精神亢奋，能3天3夜连续不睡觉，产生幻觉。

“对于甲卡西酮国家麻醉药品与精神药品管理条例中早有明确规定，属于国家管制的一类精神药品。”胡文立说，正是因为长期吸食能引发各种严重的精神损害，其毒害仅次于海洛因。而外地警方就是从吸食毒品人员精神受到损害，跳楼死亡后，才开始调查的。

I have heard about "Bath Salts" when I was in Hong Kong, otherwise I won't know that is the Chinese Street Name for Flakka type drugs. Those drugs are already available long before the Zombie Eating Incident. Yes, that incident brought the drug into the spot light (In fact, it brought a lot international attention for the drugs), but the drug have deal its damage a lot longer before 2012. In the Chinese News I quote, the Drug official claim that particular operation started in 2009 when they were prompted to investigate after a man died from the side effect.

Bath Salts were rediscovered sometime in early 2000s, and it was a world wide phenomena, it happened everywhere, and I was 19 when I was in Hong Kong studying in College, that is when I first heard of Drugs like Bath Salts.

I never hide the fact that bath salts exist a lot longer than in the early 2000s, I also did not claim China "Taught" the westerner on that drugs. (I never said those thing, you may want to read what I wrote again.)

The point I raise was, HOWEVER, China was, and still is, have no blanket ban on Synthetic Drug. The first country to ban all Cathinone Derivative is Israel, in 2008, followed by most of the EU in 2009, then UK in 2010, then US in 2012. China, on the other hand, Banned Specifically Methcathinone in 2005 and Flakka in 2015, and no ban on other Cathinone Derivative, such as Alpha-PVP. You can still buy Alpha-PVP today from Alibaba and they are perfectly legal in China.

That May 26, 2012 incident was not pinpointed on Flakka. They tested for known bath salts.

Bath Salts is a designer drugs, prior to 2008, there are no law against Designer Drugs, you can own whatever as long as they are not in the list of Control substances.

The thing is, the list, being an actual list, does not list all the drugs that was derived from those particular drugs. Unless that particular drug itself is on the banned list, then even with slight variation, you can own a chemical that act the same as the substance in the banned list, but since it have a different sub group, it was totally legal to own, just as long as you don't deemed it is for human consumption.

Back in 2012, basic toxicology report would not have tested all available street drugs in the system, simply there were no law against that. The problem is, however, it won't show if you test a drug on Alpha-Specific or Group Specific test. Hence, there are a pretty much a good chances that the police won't know what they were looking for back in 2012 when that dude eat half the other guy face.

Was it wrong? Because I did found a news piece saying those drug were already been selling and the Chinese LEA were dealing with it in 2009...Chinese Police were targeting the specific form of Cathinone Derivative, that point was made in response to previous member stating that he has never heard about those drug until The man chew off other person face in Florida, and my response is a proper response stating that drugs has already doing damage in China in 2010s

Then the law started catching up, but it varied state by state. Now synthetic cannabinoids/JWH-018 are pretty much illegal.

Another substance, known as salvia is still legal in the US and it is known to create hallucinations that only last for a few minutes, but which are quite intense.

It's also rather interesting that the increase in heroin/opiate in the US coincides with the war against Afghanistan.

Criminalizing drugs in general is bad policy. If a drug is a problem, make it a medical issue and treat the user. No need to make a criminal and then make the taxpayers pay for the journey to prison.

I've taken salvia with a group of friends in the Uni days. yeah its an intense trip but depends on the strength you get. i receded painters an artists to take before they work as your visions changes when it comes to colours. I'm pretty sure people that made cartoons 20/30 years ago all took salvia
