What's new

History Made - Russian Spymaster visits Pakistan, gets access to Gwadar Port.

Trading through black sea might be easier for the Russians.

Strategic presence through Gwadar? Unless Pakistan become a full blown ally/ satellite I don't see it.

Russian doesn't only have European part.

Roman is built from the first stone.

Wouldn't russia be inviting Syrian terrorists on gawadar port if it wants to fight syria war through this ?

It couldn't happen as far as I can see.

There is no business of profit guaranteed without compensation, if you mean the risks of this decision.
Even you don't do anything, that doesn't mean you are secured.

I hope india too can share this trade route since there is alot to gain from.

It might look impossible in near future but who knows when peace prevails. It will give great boost to indian manufacturing units.

Peace is highly unlikely (& possibly impossible) with India as long as fascists are in power

Again I had been saying for long that if we become the need of others, they ll do anything not only to protect U but also protect your interests. Gawader port can become a regional sign of peace and prosperity as when all stakeholders wud word together for a good cause then there wud be no room left for violence of any sort.

Russians Might not get a lot of benefit from Gawadar. The main purpose of Gawadar was an ease of access to middle east. Russians already have Oil & gas dumps, why would they need it.
Yes few of it's states which are near to Pak may get some benefits from it.

Its more to do with Russia selling stuff to ME and Africa than Russia buying oil etc from them.

That's not a joke. You have a great point there. This example of out of box thining' that Pakistan needs.

I would actually mark out 4 miles by 1 mile strip adjacent to Gwadar ( on the west side) along the beach. Then build a 10 feet high concrete wall with appropriatre trench in front of it. Then have two entry control points. Then I would hand that 'Golden Strip' to Chinese on a 66 year lease. Let them do what they want there. Within decade you could have 'Golden City' that sells itself as gambling resort on the Arabian Sea. Rich Arabs, Russians, Chinese would flood the place.

You would have Pakistan's 'Monte Carlo' on the Arabian Sea.

*That would then also act like a turbocharger for Gwadar City.

I cant find the website now but Musharraf did have plans to build casinos in Gwadar .

Can U plz relate and show us how and why would this be happening on a trade corridor?

I'm skeptical, they are a major Indian ally. Best keep a good eye on them.

When it comes to trade and strategic motives, India would be put itself in quite an odd position if they utter even a single word against it. Has Russia ever uttered even a single word against growing relations and all those pacts between India and USA? I dont think so, and so shud be the case here too.

'If only wishes were fishes'. The prospect of Soviet Russia and Pakistan post 1947 being together is pure fantasy. Yes, if majority of Pakistani's were like me, secular with left leaning tendancies this might have been possible.

A person is known by the company he keeps. Soviet Russia had partners inside Afghanistan and who were they? Westernized secular Afghans of the PDPA.

You think for a second Pakistan with it's religion frothing from the mouth and just about everything being explained in referance to 'Muslim' would have got along with a socialist, athiest state? You got to be kidding me?

Elsewhere like Syria, Iraq Soviet Russia allied itself with leftist secular forces. No chance of that in a country which dreams in being citadel of Islam.

And who supported the hardline Islamists in Afghanistan. well the picture below says it all. The mullah and Americans were best friends once.

Lol russia is not a secular state right now, its a traditional christian state now reflecting the principles of the eastern roman empire and by the way we didnt need to turn secular, we broke up their secular ussr to bits and brought them back to religion, russia was not secular, the ussr govt was secular based on marxist ideologies which restricted and persecuted religion in the former ussr by brutak force,
A little knowledge can be more dangerous than no knowledge. Your perfect example of this. Cold War is over. It's been over for 26 years now.

Soviet Russia was a superpower in contest for global dominance against USA. Soviet Russia was Pakistan's neighbour. Narrow 10 miles Wakhan Corridor separated Pakistan from Soviets. Today Russia has shrunk. Central Asia is free. The former might Soviet Navy is now a rusting floating bucket. Russia has no grand strategic need for warm waters as you put it.

Even the original 'warm waters' argument was dubious but today it is a definitely non sequiter.
Lol and when someone pretends he knows something when actually his insight in world geo politics is absolutely bull, its ultra annoying, lets start ur education kid, lets see russia is still a very heavy wieght contender for global dominance, whats changed???, well this time russia isnt alone but is joined by a fairly economically superior power, the red block is forming in the shape of russia and china, russia has its interests in the middleast which it wants to rid of nato dominance, the bear is stretching, the little european states are in danger of getting run over, trump even gave a statement which amounted to america pretty much backing off, lol, he said they would access what contributions the state endangered was making to the nato alliance, we saw a closely related example in crimean crisis where ukarine although not a nato memeber had public guarentees from the us and allies of absolute protection in exchange for nuclear disarment well we all know what happened there dont we??, so china has its problems in aouth china sea and both these giants have decided to be inthe same boat, now lets move on, lol what u r implying is that russia wanted warm waters cause it bordered pakistan??? russian interests in warm waters are not related to pakistan dear, they are directly related to gaining dominance of middleastern oil and controlling its supply, if Us hegemony over saudi etc oil vanishes so does its dominance in asia and the middleast, we saw a while ago that saudi's are moving closer to russia seeing america's betrayal, the even signed some pacts which points towards a shift in traditional geopolitical situation, moreover the trade that goes through china to india to central asian nations to africa amounts to trillions of dollars and russia obviously wants a piece of that, who wouldnt??, they are seeking a route deeper into asia and africa ia cpec, the other plausibke route is the medetranian and no way the west is handing that bucket of water over to russia china without a fight so the bear is looking for other routs to africa, routes that comprise of both a safe protected sea route couoles with a safe passage via land, grow uo, the days of wet people like u jerking off to the west are over, no power lasts forever and Us didnt even last a century, powers that were more powerful and reigned for a much longer time finally vaned away, the islamic and the roman empires are perfect examples of that, no way the russians would ask for cpec unless they really needed it, obviously the have better understanding of the situation than u since they asked for it, dont u think so??, or do u choose to believe that a keyboard fanatic knows more than the kremlin itself??, every nation in the middleeast wants to do away with thier relationshios with the Us cause simply put the yanks are a pretty unreasonable.people and nations here only put up with them cause they didnt have an alternative, but now they do, china russia turkey and pakistan can fullfill the defence needs of every nation in the east and moreover with chinese capital behind this block, billions can be offered in aid to sway countries which if u bothered to follow anything recent, is already happening....

Wondering how this plays out, given terrorist state of India is supporting terrorists to sabotage CPEC and Russia actually wants to make use of CPEC. You basically will have two traditional allies at odds with each other.

Pakistani elite - no idea how many damned times I am going to have to repeat this preferred the WEST. Jinnah preferred the WEST. Liaqat preferred the WEST. Ayub Khan preferred the WEST. Almost all of Pakistani elite in 1950s, 60s, 70s got educated in the WEST and often would get jobs in the WEST. Some would do stints in government in Pakistan and then spend time in the WEST. Ordinary Pakistani's just followed the pattern set by the elite - go WEST.

Had the Pakistani left - socialists taken over Pakistan, for example had Rawalpindi Consipracy taken off and a left leaning government taken over than a relationship with Russia would have taken root like with PDPA in Afghanistan. Instead the leftists were wiped out and a right wing, religious, landlords. bourgoise class took Pakistan WEST.

"The Rawalpindi Conspiracy (also known as the Rawalpindi Conspiracy Case) was an attempted Soviet-backed coup d'état against the government of Liaquat Ali Khan, the first Prime Minister of Pakistan, in 1951. The conspiracy was the first of many subsequent coup attempts against elected governments in the history of Pakistan.[1] The coup was planned by Major-General Akbar Khan, a senior commander in the Pakistani army, in conjunction with other military officers and left-wing Pakistani politicians.[1]
