Himachal Pradesh landslide: Death toll reaches 46
In the tragic landslide incident around 50 people are feared dead while rescue teams so far have recovered 12 bodies while search to trace remaining missing people is still on.

SHIMLA: Around 50 people are feared to be killed by the massive landslide that struck Kotrupi area under Urla panchayat of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh on Sunday wee hours. Huge chunk of debris sliding down the hill washed away two HRTC buses, some other vehicles and few houses besides around 250 meters stretch of Pathankot-Mandi national highway. Till the filing of this report 46 bodies were recovered while five injured were shifted to hospital.

While three bodies were recovered from Katra-bound bus, 42 bodies were recovered from the Manali-bound bus. One body was of a biker identified as Sunny Kumar of Jogindernagar in Mandi district. So far 23 bodies have been identified.

It is feared that death toll could increase further as during rescue operation remains of some houses have also been traced. It is being said that two HRTC buses had stopped at Kotrupi near Joginder Nagar for refreshments around midnight.

While Pathankot depot's AC bus was running on Manali-Katra, Chamba depot's bus was running on Chamba-Manali route. State government claimed that Katra bound bus was having total 8 passengers of which 3 were killed and five were rescued, Manali bound bus was packed to capacity.

Sources said that initially a big boulder fell on the Katra bound bus followed by huge landslide. The bus rolled down around 200 meters. Chamba depot's bus was completely washed away and rolled down two kms down the hill. A 250 m stretch of the road has been completely washed away and Mandi-Joginder Nagar road has been closed for traffic. Vehicles have been diverted via alternative routes.

Mandi district administration received a call around 12.24 am after which rescue teams were sent towards the spot from Mandi and Joginder Nagar. Mandi Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam along with other officials remained present at the spot all night. Seeing magnitude of calamity that struck the area, administration also requested for the help of army and NDRF to intensify the rescue operation.

Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh also visited Kotrupi and directed the officials to intensify the rescue and relief measures on war footing. He said that rescue operation would continue until the last body of victim was recovered.

The teams of NDRF, Army, Police and Home Guards have been deployed in the operation. Sources said that during the rescue operation, bodies recovered from headless and amputated.

CM meets kin
Virbhadra Singh distributed immediate relief to next of kin of the deceased and injured. He directed to assess the loss to the property at the earliest so that the sufferers could be provided compensation and other assistance. He also met the bereaved family members and expressed his heartfelt condolences. He assured them of all possible assistance in this hour of distress.

State revenue minister Kaul Singh Thakur announced financial assistance of Rs four lakh to the next of kin of the deceased while transport minister announced that Rs one lakh financial assistance would be given by HRTC.

PM condoles death


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday condoled the deaths that occurred due to a landslide. A team of NDRF is going to Mandi to take part in rescue and relief operations and provide all possible assistance required, the PMO said.

"Pained by the loss of lives due to landslide related accidents in HP's Mandi district. My condolences with the families of the deceased," Modi tweeted.

"I pray for the quick recovery of those injured in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh," he added.

But sorry to point out one thing on indian news channels and forums same Indians were celebrating Earthquake deaths in China and yesterday day blast in Pishin.

Yeah for them every blast in Pakistan is blessing for them and any army soldier martyred any where is pakistan was supposed to be martyred by them at LOC and Pakistan showed lies to save fave. Pak army usually bury them in night to hide the causalities.
