It has a lot of mineral wealth. But that mineral wealth takes money to dig out as well. So if Afghanistan has $1 trillion worth of mineral wealth, it would take $2 trillion to mine all of it out of the ground. And that's why a country should focus on HUMAN RESOURCES as a top priority instead of minerals, like South Korea.

South Korea was as poor as Afg in 1950s... But they already had a CULTURE in place that valued education as a top priority. All afghanis value is weed...
Well South Korea had access to the sea and the US cared enough about North Korea to invest in security -- Afghanistan can never compete with the US/West's preference for Pakistan.
Of course I am dreaming -- but so did Pakistani elites and they one can argue it almost happened.
A lot of scholars think that will the eventual state of Pakistan and Afghanistan -- it might take a long time to get there but they think the two countries apart are not nearly as viable as a united country.
