High tech export: india is worse than Philippines

Meh. How many of these countries have sent a satellite to Mars or have a full fledged defence industry? Not everything can be quantified through exports alone.
India didn't send a satellite to Mars. NASA did. It was NASA's expertise and NASA's DEEP SPACE NETWORK that controlled the Indian satellite.

NASA used its expertise to plan the Mars expedition for the Indian satellite. NASA used its DEEP SPACE NETWORK to send commands to the Indian satellite to safely enter Mars' orbit.

India was a bystander to NASA's project to send another satellite (which happened to be Indian, but it could have been from any country) to Mars.

Stop claiming that India sent a satellite to Mars. That is not the case.

Without NASA's expertise and DEEP SPACE NETWORK, the Indian satellite could not have made it to Mars.

If members want to be defensive, I totally understand.
They can argue what kind of existing hight-tech industries they have, instead of throwing out those meaningless comments. Useless defence = no defence
They can even quote the domestic market for high-tech products, for example the emerging smart phone assembling industry.
Wouldn't be it more effectively defensive?

If this is the case, then why did he have to say things like people should not have that kind of life style?
Having and running A/C is a sin?
If that was the defensive tactic you'd like to see, then I am totally speechless.

  1. Not all people necessarily have logic and logical defense as their first instinct while in defensive mode.
  2. A defensive mode by its definition is an emotional response, and emotional response often invokes illogical and emotional arguments.
  3. However, I agree with the general case made by Indian members here that the definition of high tech exports is extremely dubious here.
  4. I would, as you say, like to give you some stats regarding India, Vietnam, and Philippines, concerning research, science and technology.
  5. One of the problems with the current definitions of high tech exports is that it doesn't focus on value added in the country. This means that a Samsung phone and TV that is only assembled in Vietnam still counts as a "high tech export."

Do you know half of Japan's wood exports are to China?

I didn't know this particular fact. But I perfectly understand that China imports most of its resources.

In fact in the case of Lithium, China actually is one of the few countries that are not exploiting their own ores, and relying heavily on securing mines elsewhere.

I follow EV scene, and China pretty much has control over up to half of all resources mined in other countries.

OK, then could you find any recent data on value added?
My data at hand was outdated during 2012-2013.
I was going to quote value added.

Feels like Deja vu all over again.

High-tech export is high-tech export.
The definition has no obvious problem.
You can compare value added if you do not like that definition.

India's mars mission was a Chinese success as mentioned by me in a previous post:

Some Chinese here claim India's mars mission is due usage of made in China products like Lenovo Laptop to view ppts on Mars mission plus any made in China smartphones or smartphones components used by ISRO personnel.

So India's mars mission is actually a Chinese success.

According to them without Chinese imports Indians will go back to living in jungles.

I understand you being an American wish to berate Chinese achievement but it reflects poorly on USA.

Are we changing the topic here?
I think there are enough threads in China sections about journals, nature, index, paper, etc.
Such thread appears weekly, or at least every 2-3 weeks.

Value added? High-tech exports?
Shall we concentrate?

Deep space network in the most important thing in that project I think.
China lacks that.

High-tech export is high-tech export.
The definition has no obvious problem.
You can compare value added if you do not like that definition.

Sure than India doesn't have high tech exports. Vietnam may have more of them compared to India due to its proximity to East Asian supply chains, and its place as a final assembly location.

However, if someone is implying that India is on the whole less high tech, than that is wrong.

As for value added, I don't have any data on "high tech" value added. I have data on value added in general in manufacturing, and different sectors.

You can quote the entire number.
Total value added is already very directive in terms of what you really got from manufacturing instead of just getting 1% of the value.

I only got that old 2012-2013 rank, so I chose not to post here.
Those weak defenders would jump up and down.

The DSN helps in communicating, nothing else. All the actual navigation equipment, navigation guides, the rocket, the satellite, they were all Indian. We "used" the American DSN to send "Indian commands" to the "Indian satellite".

What you are claiming is like saying aircraft are controlled by air traffic controllers.

Come on, learn to understand what technology is.

.
I guess the non-high-tech indian exports by your definition is not low-tech, congrats!
My definition?

Do you read the posts you quote?

Read my post and this time make an effort understand. I am supporting pdf Chinese narrative/feelings on this topic.

btw % of high tech manufacturing for China in the same year was 26.9 vs Niger's 52%

Congrats on trying to catch up

Baloney.

India used NASA to send a satellite to Mars and now you shamelessly claim that NASA's expertise in sending satellites to MARS for decades and NASA's DEEP SPACE NETWORK were not important.

You're shameless and ridiculous.

I provided the citation from Space.com on NASA's involvement for a reason. I provided proof of NASA's crucial role. You're just going to shamelessly eliminate NASA's vital contributions with your useless opinion?

If you want to claim that India sent a satellite to Mars then do it without NASA next time.

China lacks that.

A DSN is not a technological hurdle, it's a financial hurdle. The same with exporting high tech goods, it's all about financial limits. The richer you are, the better will be your tech exports.

If it comes down to "real" high tech exports, China is nowhere near the advanced world's standards.

http://www.grips.ac.jp/r-center/wp-content/uploads/11-05.pdf
China’s leading position in high-tech exports is a myth created by outdated trade statistics, which are inconsistent with the trade based on global supply chains. Assembled high-tech products, made with imported key parts and components, accounted for 82% of China’s high-tech exports. Current trade statistics mistakenly credit entire values of these assembled products to China, thus greatly inflate the export value. For instance, in 2009 China’s export in the iPhone amounted US$4.6 billion, of which only 3.6% was the value added by Chinese workers; its annual export in laptop PC valued at US$52 billion, but assembly accounted for only 3% of the gross value. In addition, 83% of China’s high-tech exports was attributed to foreign invested firms, in particular Taiwanese owned companies. Taiwan-IT companies have relocated 95% of their production/assembly capacity into and transferred mainland China to a top assembler of information and communication technology, such as laptop PCs, digital cameras and all i-products.

In a smartphone, if the chipset and processor comes from the US, the display from Korea, the camera from Japan, the battery from Vietnam, and all China does is assemble this stuff, how is this counted as high tech?

China is still a very long way from becoming a "real" hi-tech exporter.

Baloney.

Am I speaking to a 6-year-old? Read up on what the DSN does first.

As I said, you want me to give credit to the ATC for inventing the plane and then flying it.
