Helmand despatch: 'Pakistan is the true enemy'

Michael Semple'a articles based on years of working with the GoA at various levels does shed some insight into why the Afghans think the way they do.

Thanks AM, yes i am in whole hearted agreement with you here.

Because if you dont finish the menace in your NWFP area, it will finish you. Its actually your war in which USA is helping you and not the other way round like most members on this forum like to believe. USA can pack their bags and leave when they want and the only thing they lose is a bit of ego. Where will Pakistan go?? The problem is right inside your country...

1)HAHA thts ur wish and our problem is not in NWFP but FATA.
2)Taliban didnt attack us... US attacked them.It was USAs war we JOINED... And to says its OUR WAR NOT USAs is just b.s.
3)If USA leaves n only loses its ego and gets shamed n stuff.. then we will have no choice but to support Taliban!

Hope i answered ur questions.

the insurgency in FATA is caused by TTP,not the taliban inside afghan,am i right

how american's leaving afghan will solve problem in fata, since TTP's interest lies inside pakistan

u still support taliban, their is nothing about U.S leaving their or not

.
the point is that u r trying to defend ur position that Afghan and India r blatantly blaming u unnecessarily

I have provided Micahel Semples articles based on years of experience working with Afghans and the Afghan government to back up my point. Pleas refute those arguments if you disagree instead of hijacking the thread into a different topic.

Not entirely - the insurgency in Bajaur and Mohmand is in fact the result of both local Taliban and Taliban finding shelter in Afghanistan's Konar province.

Mullah Fazlullah of Swat is said to be sheltering in that province if Afghanistan under the protection of the local governor.

I'm amazed at the thankless nature of the world. The entire world is always leaning on us for help, making us the frontline state in this fight all the same time bitching and moaning against how bad we are.

The day is not far when one head of state gets bitchslapped and is told to shut their potty mouths and be respectful to the people risking their lives to save your lives.

.
That is incorrect - Afghan hostility towards Pakistan is as old as Indian hostility, given that Afghanistan refused to accept Pakistan in 1947, and actively supported and sheltered both Baluch and Pashtun insurgents and claimed Pakistani territory.

My post is not about the timing aspect but about the fact the multiple entities are blaming Pakistan for the same misadventure of supporting terrorism/insurgency in a foreign country

Entities with vested interests in doing so, as pointed out, and entities basing their concerns on the same fabricated and flawed intelligence out of Afghanistan the Semple cautions against.

No you didnt... But I wasn't asking any questions anyway.. Just stating my humble point of view...

1. NWFP, FATA doesnt make too much of a difference.. These guys are everywhere..
2. Now if TTP and AT are 2 different entities with no links(as claimed by yourself in the past) how come US attacking Afghan Taliban led to TTP attacking you??
3. Sure.. Go ahead and see where it leads you.. As if present economic decline is not bad enough...

Great sense of humor...

But I believe a rethink of Pakistani policies will yield better results..

Since joining wot, have pakistan done anything against afghan taliban factions in north wazeeristan?any air raids or army action?dont some afghan talibs like haqqanis still control some areas in pakistan? pakistan army haven't done anything against them, while being allied in wot(i'm talking about afghan taliban factions like haqqanis and not about ttp)shouldn't that rightly be a matter of concern for NATO and afghan government?

Thats what you believe and you are entitled to it..but most of the world believes otherwise. Now most of the world believing it doesnt make it a fact (or a fallacy) but once it becomes a popular belief, the damage is not dependent on whether proof is provided or not..

The damage occurs when governments 'believe' in a the complicity of another and take tangible steps to address that 'complicity', and not when the 'world believes'.

Since most of the 'wikileaked' intel is old, you must agree that Western governments, including the US and UK, have known about this so called 'evidence' for a long time now. And we see both government increasing military and economic support to Pakistan. That tells me a lot more about the veracity of the evidence, and the direction the governments are taking WRT Pakistan, than public rhetoric.

'Actions speak louder than words' as the old adage goes.

Shouldn't the fact that Taliban attack Pakistan with impunity out of the Afghan province of Konar be a mater of concern?

As for your question, a few attacks have been carried out and Pakistan reportedly assists the US with intelligence on targets in NW for drone attacks. Given 140,000 troops deployed across FATA and Swat, the shortage of helicopters and slow economy, there are real resource constraints on expanding an operation into NW at this time.
