Helicopter crash J&K, female pilot and six pilgrim died

Seven people including the pilot were killed after a chopper carrying Vaishno Devi pilgrims crashed at Katra in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday afternoon.

The chopper – coming from Sanjichat – crashed at the new bus stand area in Katra town, Jammu inspector general of police Danish Rana confirmed.

According to unconfirmed reports, the chopper caught fire mid-air and the woman pilot averted the crash in a populated area in Katra.

The passengers who were killed in the crash were identified as Arjun Singh, Mahesh, Vandana, Sachin, Amritpal and five-year-old Akshita. Police said all deceased were from Jammu.

Vaishno Devi pilgrims take chopper service to Sanjichat, which is near Bhawan.

It is a 12-km mountainous trek from Katra and pilgrims usually go either by foot or take a pony or palanquin to Vaishno Devi.

The shrine is nestled in the Shivalik range in the Himalayan foothills, 56 km north of Jammu, and has become one of the most popular pilgrimage centres in north India. Millions of pilgrims from across the country and abroad visit the shrine every year.

In February, a military helicopter had crashed north of Srinagar, killing both pilots.

Srinagar: A privately-run helicopter crashed in J&K’s Trikuta hills, killing six Mata Vaishno Devi-bound pilgrims and the woman pilot on Monday. The helicopter was piloted by Sumeeta Vijayan from Hyderabad.

A bird-hit downed the helicopter soon after take-off from the Sanji Chhat helipad in the Trikuta hills. The copter caught fire on crashing. It was returning to Katra, the base camp of the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage.

Sumeeta was trying to land in an open space near the Katra bus terminus. She failed apparently because the tail rotor of the helicopter got damaged and went out of control.

my condolences for the pilot... she should be celebrated for taking the bird-hit and burning helicopter away from the populated away and saving innocent people

why are these helicopters built so delicately?? it is stupid.

.and i must say the female pilot and the helicopter were not helped by any magic emitting from those pilgrims in the helicopter... anyone who believes in pilgrimages giving them magic or taking them near god is a idiot

i wanted to provide a dose of common sense and make a call for scientific society.

i regret not having provided more examples in that post... if i had spoken about the recent hajj tragedies, it would have been balanced... but good that you asked.

People died for no fault of theirs. Best to keep your logic under a tight lid, and not offend members of those community.

As much as my differences with the Saffron Chaddi Brigade, I have met in Pakistan and here, very decent, polite, humble, helpful hindus. Your intention might be noble, but when someone dies, or a tragedy occurs, that's not the right time to start psycho analyzing. You can wait a couple of days and then open a non-insulting, thought provoking thread, and put your opinions across in the most, polite, thought provoking way possible. After all the idea is to get them to rationally question themselves, and anything more than that, and you could end up hurting their feelings or insulting them, which would be counter-productive.

I hope my young friend, you will take this in the right spirit.
