That is a western term, that India does not have toilets. The people did not want to make toilets inside their houses as a factor of hygiene in villages. So they decided to use fields. My village has proper toilets but they are outside the house. Who says, there are no toilets? Rather here in europe if you want to shit you will need to find some station or pay 2 euros in some restaurant just to use toilets. We don't have a lot of public toilets here.

Hinduism is the reason India is secular and has respect for other religions - Hindus did not go around burning mosques or churches or murdering people because they follow another religion. Was there any other civilisation that gave sanctuary to Jews and parsees from the Muslim / Christian genocide tactics, or have a massive Buddhist university during medieval times in the heart of the country?

But you have messed up in the 2nd part of your post, the article is not complaining about the tolerant Hinduism, he is more worried about the rise of "Intolerant Hindutva".

there is no politics... you cant change people by danda because the are the ones who elect you... what if they revolt? Only way is showing carrots (give them subsidy in making toilets), and massive media campaign shaming people who go to the fields.

revolt always has a leader, without leaders revolt does not happen. And if for this issue revolt happens then fault is in us. just like dp used their sticks in delhi metro to civilize people similar way.

So how many muslims were murdered because of their religion, charged with "blasphemy", their women kidnapped, raped and forcibly converted or mosques blown up in states where you see a problem with "Intolerant Hindutva" as you put it?

What should be the minimum threshold before we start worrying about it? Should we wait till the time all these things start happening on a large scale everywhere in the country?
