What's new

Height of Pakistanis has fallen 4'' over 50 years

You're letting the side down bros. Us AJK folk are tall I'm 6ft 1 and yes people have met me half a dozen times on this forum.

I don't know what it is. I've tried to look at any patterns, my grandfather was in AJK regiment, he was 6 ft. His siblings and relatives from that generation are at least 5"10 and above. But the recent ones tend to have been shorter. I think moving in to cities and away from the dehati livestyle with poorer nutrient rich food has definitely resulted in a lot of folks in my family getting shorter.

The story is the same for my paternal side as well. Don't worry though, you taller folks keep the enemy busy while we'll get in their legs and trip them over.

That is very true. But we must avoid comparing ourselves with Ganga''s - they are the certified wimps of the world. As regards the report there maybe some truth to this. I see Latvians, Poles in UK and by gawd these guys are huge. I mean decking out 6'3 and wide as tanks is normal. Even the females are decking out at 5'11 average.

I once read a report by a English officer that people used to come from across the Raj to look at Punjab police in Lahore and how on his subsequent visit 30 years later the height had dropped. I don't think so much the diet but cousin marriages that are wrecking our genese. This is a fact and we need to fix this problem. Every generation should improve mentally and physically. Too many times I see the opposite happening.

Funny thing is the Banglas in UK are getting taller and better looking - although that is not saying much but they are improving.

Kinda of a racist thing to say don't you think?

Lol, get back to the mountains and fields bro. We don't belong in the cities like the Lahoris. :o::p:.
That's what makes us a tough bunch.

Pakistans poverty isn't as much problematic as Bangladesh. So, why you guys losing height when Bangladeshis are gaining? :what:

Ab tak tu aik inch or girgaya hoga.

FAISALABAD:

The average height of Pakistanis has fallen four inches over the last 50 years due to malnourishment and food deficiency.
This was revealed in a workshop on “Applied Nature Need Based research Projects of Food Industries” organized by National Institute of Food Science & Technology (NIFSAT) University of Agriculture, Faisalabad here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, UAF Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, said that cousin marriages were also one of the reasons for the short stature of Pakistanis. He urged the need for new diet packages to be introduced for balanced, affordable food.

Dr Iqrar also expressed concerns over existing eating habits, saying 50 years ago, large amounts of corn flour was traditionally consumed, but over time, Pakistanis had lost the mechanism to cook roti with corn flour, which was a cheaper, healthier staple food item.

Dr Iqrar revealed that a BSc (Hons) Human Nutrition and Dietetics and Food Engineering degree was being initiated for the first time in the country. He hoped that by introducing new disciplines, a trained human resource would be available for the food industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Mehboob Aly Manji, President, VITA Pakistan stressed the need to exploit the indigenous food potential by introducing fruits drinks such as Falsa, Luqat and Jaman. He said that floriculture practices could be most beneficial in uplifting the living standards of small farmers. Manji said Pakistan was exporting 80-90 tons of flowers to Saudi Arabia every year, and this volume could be increased by promoting and incentivizing floriculture.

Professor Dr Faqir Muhammad Anjum, Director General (NIFSAT) said that Nestle Pakistan and VITA Food have signed MOU’s to promote skill development initiatives through short courses.

“NIFSAT has conducted 12 national and international symposia, seminars and workshops during the last year with the collaboration of industries,” he added.

Dr Muhammad Shafique Ch. Director, RAMNA Food, Lahore stressed the need for a value addition mechanism, keeping in view the demand of consumers.

He expressed his concerns over the Punjab government’s decision to purchase 2.5 million ton of wheat this year, given that 4.5 million tons of wheat was stored in the province.
Agree, my father and grand father were 6ft2", I am 5ft10". G, how they knew about us?

That made me think, but then why are Northern Pakistanis and Northern Indians the tallest in their respective lands? Europeans who live near the Alps are the tallest in their lands.

I had to find out a bit more. So Punjabi men are tallest men in India, 2nd tallest by a whisker are those from Kerala - a Southern state. In women, the women from Kerala top the charts in India.

No coincidence that Kerala was the first state in India to achieve 100% literacy, the lowest malnutrition rate and has life-expectancy on par with developed countries at 75 years. I visited it first time a couple years ago - very pretty too.

Fake news..........................Here in AK regular is the 5-9 to 5-10 inch range. Whatever the case we are taller than men from the Ganga.

If you see people who were young during the time of Ayub Khan you will see they are taller than people today. considerably taller. One of the reason is food is not reaching people adequately.

Out of curiosity, I looked up North Korea and South Korea - countries which till just over half a century ago were one nation in pretty much everything - religion, food habits, genetics, language etc. The difference is that the average South Korean male is 3 inches taller than the North Korean. I am assuming most cultural habits have remained the same - but economically the two countries are poles apart.

Surely you're not hoping to draw parallels with Pakistan and India on this? Because we're taller than you guys...

In GB.. i see a weird phenomena... the older generation is mostly short... even people in 30s.

The teenagers are tall..

..

Personally.. im 6.. my father is 5'11... 5'11-6'3 is average in my family.

Average for my gen (20s) is 6-6'1... our younger cousins are taller ... and deep inside.. it kinda makes me feel ... well lets just say weird.

The tallest being one of my uncles.. whose 6"6... and stocky (not fat.. rather "square")

The shortest is a maternal uncle who is like 5'6/7... and well... hes teased by everyone.
