It was while Marwa el-Sherbini was in the dock recalling how the accused had insulted her for wearing the hijab after she asked him to let her son sit on a swing last summer, that the very same man strode across the Dresden courtroom and plunged a knife into her 18 times. Her three-year-old son Mustafa was forced to watch as his mother slumped to the courtroom floor.

Even her husband Elvi Ali Okaz could do nothing as the 28-year-old Russian stock controller who was being sued for insult and abuse took the life of his pregnant wife. As Okaz ran to save her, he too was brought down, shot by a police officer who mistook him for the attacker. He is now in intensive care in a Dresden hospital.

While the horrific incident that took place a week ago tomorrow has attracted little publicity in Europe, and in Germany has focused more on issues of court security than the racist motivation behind the attack, 2,000 miles away in her native Egypt, the 32-year-old pharmacist has been named the "headscarf martyr".

She has become a national symbol of persecution for a growing number of demonstrators, who have taken to the streets in protest at the perceived growth in Islamophobia in the west. Sherbini's funeral took place in her native Alexandria on Monday in the presence of thousands of mourners and leading government figures. There are plans to name a street after her.

Unemployed Alex W. from Perm in Russia was found guilty last November of insulting and abusing Sherbini, screaming "terrorist" and "Islamist whore" at her, during the Dresden park encounter. He was fined €780 but had appealed the verdict, which is why he and Sherbini appeared face to face in court again.

Even though he had made his anti-Muslim sentiments clear, there was no heightened security and questions remain as to why he was allowed to bring a knife into the courtroom.

Angry mourners at the funeral in Alexandria accused Germany of racism, shouting slogans such as "Germans are the enemies of God" and Egypt's head mufti Muhammad Sayyid Tantawy called on the German judiciary to severely punish Alex W.

In Germany the government of Angela Merkel has been sharply criticised for its sluggish response to the country's first murderous anti-Islamic attack. The general secretaries of both the Central Council of Jews and the Central Council of Muslims, Stephen Kramer and Aiman Mazyek, who on Monday made a joint visit to the bedside of Sherbini's husband, spoke of the "inexplicably sparse" reactions from both media and politicians.

They said that although there was no question that the attack was racially motivated, the debate in Germany had concentrated more on the issue of the lack of courtroom security. "I think the facts speak for themselves," Kramer said.

In an effort to gather much needed support for the W0T many European countries are shipping the worst possible Muslims they can find to their countries, and spread Islamophobia. Such attacks are result of hatred/suspicion created by those policies.

This kind of violent Fascism is on the rise in Europe, with more and more extremist Fascist political parties rising up in Europe and taking seats in Parliament.

In Britain, Germany, Netherlands, Espana (Spain) Russia (not Europe), France, and even Italy there are more and more Fascist politicians gaining a hold of Government.

These politicians are elected on the public mandate of Anti-Islam and Anti-immigrant sentiments held by their European constituents. This is not merely an isolated event of this poor young Muslim lady being stabbed 18 times this is a popular trend.

It is absolutely incredible this stabbing 18 times did not take place in a dark street at midnight, this took place in a German courtroom full of German police and security guards!

this incident will definately take attention of those who have never bothered to know what Islam is and what Hijab is and in process they may learn what is right or wrong . Such incidents not only promote hatered among muslim world but also Islamization Activities in the West .
Like Sarkozy banning hijab. I think most people didnt knew that what hijab was and what is its purpose. On course of finding out they may find out whats right and whats wrong.

I agree with you to an extent, to be honest Germany is one of the few European countries I respect, the German people have admirable qualities to them.


Though what about Britain, France, Russia, Spain, Italy, and even Netherlands.


In Russia their is a rise of anti-Muslim sentiment and radical Russian parties are gaining more influence in politics, Vladimir Putin also made some anti-Muslim immigrant comments.

In Britain, the "British National Party" a radical fascist leaning party is creating a new storm targeting immigrants mostly Muslim immigrants.

These are a few examples. Anyways I hope cooler heads will prevail but not likely.

No doubt, fascists ar eon the rise not in germany but in the named European contries especially Russia got a big problem. Of course it is shocking how she was stabbed in a German courtroom but it has just happenend, it was her Destiny and Germans will prosecute the one who committed this act.

You are new to the forum, many members here have always and I mean always condemned crimes against women and minorities. There have been countless threads were many sensible member spoke out against such atrocities even the ones that take place in our own country (Pakistan).


So before you judge us you ought to take a look at the grim reality.

Actually it is the West that does this hypocrisy the most, hundreds of Iraqis will die in a US assault or "collateral damage" but no condemnation from the West no sense of remorse or sympathy. When dozens of Pakistani citizens get killed in US air drone strikes no body in the West condemns this violation of both humanity and Pakistani sovereignty, the story continues...

But when one Polish engineer gets killed by TTP terrorist led by Baitullah Mehsud, who I believe was released by the US from Guantanamo Bay and sent to Afghanistan as a free man, correct me if I'm wrong, all the hatred is poured and shoved in Pakistan's face. Or when one Jewish-American journalist, Daniel Pearl, who goes to Pakistan in a very precarious deal puts himself in harms way gets killed by terrorist in Pakistan, Pakistan gets extremely bad press coverage the Nation's name cursed in the West, over 1 journalist. Or what about the countless of Palestinian civilians killed by Israel thousands of times, but when 2 Israeli soldiers get kidnap the World goes crazy over them...That is hypocrisy!

Besides this case is quite unique because this poor Muslim Dr. was stabbed 18 times in a German courtroom with German security guards and police all around...

By the way isn't it odd how did this criminal even possess a stabbing utensil which I belief was some sort of sharp weapon, how was he even allowed in the court room...
