American terror suspect David Headley visited the 'Osho Ashram' in Pune twice during 2008-2009, a top police official said on Tuesday.



"Headley stayed in the city for a day in June 2008 and March 2009 and visited the Ashram, frequented by foreigners," Ravindra Sengaonkar, DCP, Crime, said.



According to Ashram officials, he visited the establishment at Koregaon Park for meditation, he said.



Headley, accused of masterminding terror attacks in India at the behest of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), is believed to have visited Pune on a business visa and left for Mumbai later, police sources said.



A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths which recently visited the city in connection with the probe has provided details of Headley's visit here, they added.



A spokesperson of Osho Ashram Amirti Sadhna said the Ashram was open to all and visited by thousands of people for meditation.

While investigators probe the network of US terror suspect David Coleman Headley and his Canadian accomplice Tahawwur Hussain Rana, there are leads suggesting that both were in Pakistan when Mumbai was attacked by Lashkar-Toiba (LeT) terrorists on November 26, 2008, officials in the Home Ministry said here today.



Rana, according to immigration records, left Mumbai days before the attacks after a three-week stay in India during which he visited Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Ahmedabad and Kochi — cities that Headley also visited.



MHA officials said the government has approached the Canadian government seeking more information on Rana, a Pakistan-born Canadian citizen who was arrested in Chicago by the FBI last month.

According to the FBI, Rana allegedly helped arrange Headley’s overseas travels and concealed “their true nature and purpose” to monitor potential terror targets. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 15 years in prison for conspiracy to provide material support to terrorism.

I very strongly believe that the handlers of mumbai attacker might turn out to be people like Headley aka Dawood Gilani and Rana as they way they were instructing the attackers via Sattellite telephone ,its seemed as they were sitting with maps and had personal experience of those places under attck.Those handlers,they way they spoke... their vocabulary ....their guerilla instructions virtually at each step in the execution of the attack never resembled like any madrasa trained mulla e,g a zarar shah .

Headley aka Dawood Gilani and Rana both are products of a cadet school in pakistan and well educated and skillful guys who knew what they were doing with famlily memeber at senior position in PA.

Their arrest is the biggest scoop in this whole 26/11 conspiracy.

Govt to probe into security lapse in grant of visa to Rana

With reports suggesting that Indian Consul General in Chicago had granted visas to terror suspect Tahawwur Rana without Home Ministry's clearance, Government today said the security lapse would be "looked into very carefully".

"All these issues are going to be looked into very carefully from the point of view of security angle and perhaps in the days to come, you might see more on this," External Affairs Minister S M Krishna told reporters on the sidelines of a FICCI event here.

The Minister was replying to a query if the government was planning to probe the security lapse in view of granting of visa to David Headley and Tahawwur Rana by the Indian Consul General in Chicago and Rana's visit to various Indian cities.

Copies of visas issued to Pakistani-Canadian Rana and a woman Samraz Rana Akhthar, who he claimed to be his wife, show that both were issued multiple entry visas under the discretion of the Consul General.

This was done in apparent violation of rules under which clearance of Ministry of Home Affairs is required for any person born in Pakistan.

Both Rana and the woman with him are born in the Punjab province of Pakistan.

Rana is an associate of a US citizen David Headley, who has also been arrested on terror charges by the FBI last month for their connections with terror group Lashker-e-Taiba.

It was on the fifth floor of a building in the Breach Candy area of south Mumbai that David Coleman Headley lived for less than a year till April 2008.

What is most interesting is that the building is no more than a five-minute walk up the road from the American consulate. There were no visible signs of intelligence agencies or the police watching the building.

The apartment - Number 56 - is on the fifth floor of A Block of Shyam Nivas, an old but well-maintained, well-known housing society on B Desai Road.
Earlier, the probe against American terror suspects David Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana found the duo was in Pakistan when Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists had attacked Mumbai on November 26 last year killing more than 180 people.

Investigators, probing the terror links on Headley and Rana, have found that both the suspects were moving freely in Pakistan, from where the Mumbai attackers had come and unleashed bloodbath in the metropolis for four days, senior Home Ministry official said.

He said India has approached Canada to get more information about Rana, a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin. "We are liasoning with Canada government," he said adding Rana was the "money bag" of the two.

More than 20 teams of sleuths of National Investigation Agency, a prosecuting agency established in the aftermath of 26/11, have been entrusted to probe Headley-Rana trail and central security agencies have been formed for gathering information about the places the duo had visited between 2006 and 2009.

Apart from staying in five star hotels in places like Mumbai, Kochi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai, Headley and Rana had also stayed with some "private parties" who were being questioned by security agencies.
