Muslim woman reports attack outside Ohio mosque

asohrabi20101222005509530.jpg

A 20-year-old Muslim woman has been assaulted outside a mosque in the state of Ohio and asked to leave the United States.

The immigrant from Somalia says she was attacked with pepper spray as she was in her car running errands when a man in a car followed her to the mosque's parking lot on the west side of Columbus on Monday afternoon.

A Columbus policeman, Sgt. Richard Weiner, said officers interviewed the woman on Tuesday morning.

Saida Said told reporters the attacker harassed her, swore at her, told her to leave the country and threatened to kill her.

"He just started yelling at me, cursing me out," she told WBNS -- an affiliate to CBS News -- adding, "Saying he's going to kill me, and saying, I'm going to kill all of you, all you guys. Tell the Muslims to go back from wherever they are from.”

"He took the spray and just sprayed it all over me," she said. "Like, all over me. My whole eyes, my whole face, everything."

Police have handed over the matter to the prosecutor's office. The FBI said on Tuesday that it will likely open a civil rights investigation the results of which would be turned over to federal prosecutors for any possible charges.

A security camera has recorded parts of the incident. The video shows the woman pulling into the parking lot, another vehicle pulling in and blocking hers, and then a man getting out and angrily talking to her. The pepper-spraying was not visible, because the woman's car blocked the view.

Two Men Arrested in Alleged Muslim Bias Attack on Downtown Subway Platform - DNAinfo.com

MANHATTAN — Two men have been arraigned on hate charges after allegedly beating an Imam, calling him a "camel jockey" and throwing his religious head covering onto the subway tracks early Wednesday morning.
Two men, Albert Melendez, 30, from Harlem, and Eddie Crespo, 28, from Staten Island, are accused of making anti-Muslim remarks and assaulting the 49-year-old victim on the northbound A train platform inside the Canal Street subway station, police said.
According to the New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), the man who was attacked is an Imam.
The Manhattan District Attorney's office declined to confirm the name of the Imam.
The men were riding a northbound A train when Melendez began harassing the victim, according to the criminal complaint.
"What are you, a camel jockey? I don't like Muslims," he allegedly said.
Prosecutors charged that Melendez and Crespo followed the victim off the train when they arrived at the station. Melendez allegedly attempted to kick the victim as he exited the train and then grabbed him and forced him to the ground.
Crespo then allegedly grabbed the man while Melendez grabbed the kufi off his head and threw it into the subway tracks, while restating his dislike for Muslims, the complaint said.
Melendez then allegedly punched the victim several times in the face. The victim had to be treated for a black eye and swelling, prosecutors said.
But during Melendez's arraignment Thursday, his attorney, Angel Soto, gave a very different account.
Soto said Melendez was on his way home when he made accidental contact with the alleged victim. Melendez extended his hand in apology, but the victim refused to touch it, prompting a fight, the attorney said.
Soto said that Crespo had intervened to break up the fight. It was not clear whether the two men charged knew each other prior to the incident.
"Certainly this was not a racially motivated attack,” said Soto, who dismissed the charged as "trumped up" and the prosecution’s requested $100,000 bail "ridiculously high."
Soto said Melendez has sole custody over his 13-year-old son and said that his mother worked for the Department of Correction.
Both Melendez and Crespo were arraigned on two charges of robbery in the second degree as a hate crime and assault in the third degree as a hate crime, the D.A.'s office said.
Crespo's bail was set at $7,500 cash or $20,000 bond and Melendez's bail at $25,000.
The case is being investigated by the D.A.'s Hate Crimes Unit.

The superior law n order system does guarantee that any crime would be brought to justice as long as the evidence of the crime exists.

Muse generally, the vets returning from those places - the ones that tend to be racially motived, only display their excesses off US soil and haven't been known to carry on their tirade against Muslims when back in the US.

One doesn't expect the US to have uneducated schmucks roaming about freely, partly because only the cream of the crop probably comes to our countries as expats, but when you go there you'd realize how many of them are total equivalent of our jahil japaat juggay.

In my experience it is these people who are usually shouting at every other Muslim "Go back to Saudi Arabia, Go back to Saudi Arabia".

I guess I spoke too soon, vets are in on it too.

Man accused of harassing Muslim women | Idaho | Idaho Statesman

TWIN FALLS, Idaho — Police say a Twin Falls man was arrested after reportedly threatening a Muslim woman shopping at the city's Walmart.
The Times-News reports that 42-year-old John C. Larsen was arraigned Thursday on a charge of felony malicious harassment in Twin Falls County 5th District Court.
Police say Larsen approached the woman who was wearing a traditional Muslim head covering and was accompanied by her two children. After asking if she was Muslim, Larsen allegedly told the woman that he had been in Iraq and had friends killed there and that she didn't belong in the United States.
Witnesses reported hearing the man scream at the women, telling her he had a concealed weapon, had killed Muslims and would kill more.
Twin Falls police say there is no place for prejudice in the community.

The thing get to me, it is usually people sporting religious symbols that are targeted. Somehow the headscarf and the big beard is translated for these people as showing them the middle finger. As if its like "Ha, I'm Muslim and 9/11 happened because of Muslims, nanana boo boo". What is their thinking process?

Look at the type of attack made on this woman "I was in Iraq", fighting Muslims. You are a Muslim so "My buddies were killed by you", "blown up by you". Hate criminals are so unreasonable, so ridiculous, so can't find the word - so effed up?

.
its such a shame mr truthseeker always complain on muslims, but he has im sorry to say no guts to speak neutrally, as is the example here, the enemies of pakistan and islam just want to get it insulted in some way..

If the muslims are treated so harsh, then what are we doing outside our safe zone?
Why do we work for people like these, and get all these remarks, even though we work for their country.

Well can't speak for TS, but generally people come on forums with a world view and have the tendency to apply the exceptions as the norm and add that to their world view.

IMO the only truth that you can seek is, that you can see whatever you want to see - the wold is just that diverse.

What about Muslims that are citizens of these countries? Its not just the 1st generation immigrants any more, its their kids and grandchildren that are facing the hate crimes. In fact their grand parents probably had it easy.

The true American born, American educated, American TV influenced American Muslims are the ones that are facing the issues of hate crimes. The "Go back to Saudi Arabia" argument doesn't apply to people who till now always thought of themselves from Chicago!

Salman Ahmed (of Junoon) made a brilliant documentary on America (his country of citizenship) called "It's my country too". Once I had the chance to meet him, I joked he should make a sequel, "It's my country too, dammit!". Lets see if he does.

Fine.

I am a minority in America, and I have fair treatment in America. My teachers treat me no different from any other. My guidance counselor helps me get into the best college that I can get into, like any other. We have equality here, this includes the Muslims kids in my school.

Am I seeing an admin trying to settle scores with another member by opening a contrasting thread with a vengeful intent?
No it is just about hate crimes against Muslims living in the west - the majority demographic of this forum.
