Close on the heels of the conversion by six Muslim families to Hinduism in Danodha Kalan village in Jind district, 30 families of the Muslim community today announced to convert to Hinduism in Bithmara village of Uklana block of the district.


Sources said that the Bithmara families have social relations with the families of Danodha Kalan. Like the Danodha Kalan families, these families too belong to the Mirasi Muslim community and work as Doms (traditional singers).

They took the decision to embrace Hinduism after the demise of an elderly woman Phulli Devi today. Satbir Ahlawat, son of the deceased, informed that his mother died today and his family cremated the body as per Hindu rituals.

“In official documents, we are Doms who are Scheduled Caste Hindus. Barring cremation, we have been following the socio-religious activities of the Hindus,” he said.

“Earlier, our families had been following the tradition of burying the dead as per Islam. But we have decided to do away with that tradition as well and decided to cremate the body of my mother as per Hindu traditions,” he maintained, adding that there are approximate 150 members in 30 families in the village.

He said that they never visit a mosque and, in fact, the village doesn’t have a mosque. “Our localities are close to Jat houses and we enjoy congenial social relations with them. We work as workers in their fields and also help them during social functions,” he added. Satish Patar, another villager, said that there have never been any fissures on communal lines in the village. “These people earn a living by working in the fields and by singing traditional ‘saangs’. If they have decided to convert to Hinduism, we welcome their decision. But there is no pressure on them to do so,” he said.

Shah Rukh Khan, Amir Khan, Naseerudin Shah, Fardeen Khan, Saif Ali Khan are great Muslims. They married Hindu girls and converted them to Islam.

Salman Khan also tried to marry and convert Aishwarya rai to Islam.

Perhaps the impending NRC+CAA stuff is scaring more to adopt this path.

I believe that there should be an explicit law banning anybody from questioning the citizenship and the loyalty and the integrity of any Indian citizen. In fact, asking if anyone was an Indian citizen should be restricted to judicial standing commissions, with the power of stringent punishment for contempt, meaning, if anybody sought to emulate the commissions, that individual should attract immediate and swift identification and punishment.

May be.

But there were cases of Meo Muslims and some precedents before. Something to do with the fascist Arya Samajis, the predecessors of the Hindutva gangs we see today.

But my interest in this thread is twofold -

1. What risk does it have to Muslim community in remote India? how many face this threat of conversion out of Islam?
2. What can we do to prevent these?

The Meos are a totally different case. They were a hybrid race that had given great trouble to the Sultans of Delhi, and thereafter to the Mughal Padshahs. They also followed several Hindu festivals, while continuing within Islam. It is instructive to observe people's perspectives when they look at the Meos. One set look at their becoming the target of the Aryan Samaj; the other set look at their being the inspiration for the Tabligh-e-jamaat. They were both.

Regarding #1 and#2, there is little that can be 'done'. Remember that Graham Staines and his two infant sons were murdered with no resistance or hope of rescue. What can be done for a million Graham Staines?
