June 5/08: An $8.1 million indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract with an estimated value of $8,134,542 for engineering, logistics, and technical services in support of the Harpoon Weapon Systems and SLAM-ER Missile System for the U.S. Navy, and for the Governments of Australia, Canada, Chile, Egypt, Greece, Israel, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Oman, Pakistan, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, and United Arab Emirates under the Foreign Military Sales Program.

Has Pakistan navy requested SLAM-ER in addition to 150 block II Harpoon orders?

This link gives an overview of the breakdown of a Harpoon and SLAM-ER sales and contract in 2007:
- 40 Harpoon Tactical Block II Encapsulated AURs (Pakistan (30) and Korea (10));
- 40 Harpoon Encapsulated AUR containers (Pakistan (30) and Korea (10))
This contract combines purchases for the U.S. Navy ($3,749,208; 1.96%) and the Governments of Turkey ($79,150,963; 41.36%); Pakistan ($63,666,450; 33.27%); Korea ($43,974,637); and Japan ($821,504; 0.43%) under the Foreign Military Sales Program.

This link gives an overview of a request for 150 Harpoon by Pakistan in 2005.

Neither mention SLAM-ER but in the latter the number of AGM-84L, UGM-84L and RGM-84L specified adds up to 130 rather than the 150 mentioned in the title of the article. This could be an error or it could mean 20 missiles of an unspecified type were included in that deal.

This 2010 link mentions the deal you listed.

In the absense of any direct reference to SLAM-ER being sold/provided to Pakistan, I'm inclined to read that article as referring to Harpoon support for Pakistan, not SLAM-ER.

. . .
yes its a sidewinder

Thanks for confirming that. But I don't quite get it... a sidewinder can only take care of a WVR threat, and that too once the Orion is able to get (almost) behind the bandit. For a platform like the Orion, wouldn't an AMRAAM make a lot more sense... i.e. neutralize the threat before it's in your face, allowing you almost no time to do anything about it?

The reason why orion carries sidewinder is for just in case enemy aircraft pops up in front within 20km distance. Amraam wont make any sense because then orion will require a dedicated radar which tracks enemy aircraft beyond 100km. then the entire role of orion will chance into something else meaningless because their are other BVR fighters in PAF to do that job.

.
you are pointing at our beloved JF 17 to do the job. any way good to have JF 17 for naval role to support our orions and destroy those P8 and harriers and what about one on one harrier vs JF 17

Harpoon is great induction to pakistan naval arsenal. and im sure we will get more and more in future to take care of indian ships and we also use chinese made anti ship missiles H 9 may be but im not sure the name of chinese counter part chinese counterpart is long range anti ship missiles and babur is tooo smart missile for navy for anti ship role.

Harpoon is nothing when one compares it with the India's supersonic cruise missile Brahmos which is the world's best and fastest anti ship missile. It can surpass enemy difference and can carry nuclear warhead and also can be launched from ship, submarine, land and air.

Also India has purchased latest, most modern and advance Boeing P-8 Poseidon at the same time as US navy.

Also, Project 28 Corvettes are the Indian Navy's next-generation ASW platform.

Pakistan should also look for some advance stuff rather than upgrading and buying aircraft developed 50 years ago in 1961.

Uhm, supersonic AShM can be defeated too, you just need to detect them earlier and use a missile rather than a gun to take it out.

Uhm, what do you think the P-8 will carry for AShM? Certainly not Brahmos.

Uhm, P28 is a light frigate with no AShM: it will be toally dependent on other ships and aircraft for protection against surface threats.

Uhm, not all stuff in the Indian navy or being procured can be considered the most advanced. E.g. your current carrier and its successor, the Vikramaditya.

Please, lets keep discussions here businesslike and to the point (rather than patriotic and unrealistic)

First of all your cruise missle is not even deployed so keep wating for that and if it doent fail lol second perhaps you will pay for the funds for Pakistan armed forcesto buy new wepons eh? i suggest u think about wat u say befroe saying it every country does upgrades to there armed forces in there own fashion and India having alot more funds makes it over a edge over Pakistan when it comes to buying new toys . Hence , never the less wat wever we got is no baby toys they lethal wepons that make some loose sleep i hope you sleep tight tonight .:smokin:
