Hambantonta port is useless port. It has 57,000 population away from major population centers and economic regions of Sri Lanka.
China operates the port. It is upto China to make it work.

Chinese don't source anything from local. They bring raw materials, machinaries, transport vehicles, cement, steel, labour force, planners, engineers, cooks, housemaids, sequrity guards all from China. They set up a colony at the project site.

The capacity is never reaching max potential because of politics. Some traffic is alrady being redirected there, but Indian and USA is worried about security bla bla bla. And please don't be so. Lazy Google and understand taht we had a plan to make SL and export hub for Chinese companies. Read the master plan for Hambantonta please, 1 decade of polictis and wish wash destroyed all hope of growing, SL is the prime example, we are not even their largest debtor and our loans are long term and renegotiatable.
