State run defence manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, known for manufacturing Light Combat Aircraft Tejas is currently facing employee unrest over wage disputes.

The HAL employee union which has been carrying out relay strikes across the country seeking wage revision in fair manner, has now served a strike notice to the management, due to dissatisfaction over the negotiations carried out so far, Times of India has reported.

The strike notice claims that despite a series of letters written to the CMD, the HAL management instead of taking initiatives to settle the wage revision fairly decided to reiterate points which have been deemed incorrect by the union.

The union claims that there has been a deliberate delay in wage revision settlement for workers while the revision has already been implemented for executives.

The All India HAL Trade Unions (AIHALTU) has claimed that it is left with no choice but to agitate as a result of the management’s outlook and announced that the employees would go on a strike any day after 17 July.

Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Defence, Shripad Naik has informed that Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has doubled its manufacturing capability of the indigenous Tejas Light Combat Aircraft from 8 to 16 per annum.

Production of 83 Tejas LCA-MK1A and 15 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) has been prioritised by the NDA government at the Centre, he said.

HAL has also enhanced its repair and overhaul (ROH) capability of the Sukhoi Su-30 MKI aircraft along with expediting the integration of the air variant of BrahMos supersonic missiles to the frontline fighter at its Nashik unit.

HAL has also proposed an enhancement of ROH capability for the AL-31FP engines used in the Su-30 MKIs along with plans to establish ROH facilities for RD-33 MK engines of MiG-29K/KUB fighter aircraft.

In the meantime, the defence PSU is also involved in producing Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) sets for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

@Zapper what is the update on strike and wage issues?
I am open to admit certain branches of HAL & DRDO are incompetent. For instance, HAL's most productive department is it's rotary wing production team while most others laze around all day. This also applies to certain departments of DRDO as well. Again, IA & IAF are also to blame in this regard for their love for foreign maal and kickbacks during which they wouldn't hesitate any indigenous project in the making. Which is why most tenders like the MMRCA or ATGM are re-issued multiple times while specs for indigenous projects are constantly updated which delays the delivery, resulting in abandonment of the project and they'd go for foreign weapons systems

IN & Naval design bureau along with Naval shipyards are relatively light years ahead in terms of design/development & building of indigenous platforms

Regarding, strike & wage issues of HAL - I personally hope GoI goes ahead in privatizing HAL & all other non-performing PSUs.

With all those issues you pointed out and on going strikes, still production doubled, without stating slightly about the issues rectified.
in your response, i failed to see what new actions are taken / implemented which made this Double production possible.
