H-1B spouse work permits to end, says Trump administration

The biggest advantage for companies with regards to H-1B is the fact that the employee is stuck with them for 3 to 6 years.

That is indeed part of the problem. No one wants serfs in their countries. I have heard many stories of what Indians put up with ( specifically I have heard Walmart has like 10 Indians ( on H1-B visas ) working in a room sitting on the floor with floor cushions for desks ) .
Do you really think those Indians are payed higher than local talent?

Technically speaking, the Canadian Prime Minister has more legal powers than the President of the United States.

What people fail to understand is that this is not just Trump alone doing this. There is a gigantic American bureaucracy at work here. The powers that be behind the shadows very often determine the path, and they have decided for to take this turn.

Although the Pentagon is a world on its own but that is a different discussion.

My point is if Americans are thinking that they don't need workers at this level, then the H1B workers are next.

I'd highly recommend driving through small town America on a road trip. It is a great adventure but you also get to see the poverty and struggle. Majority of Americans are poor but most also have guns. The American powers that be know that they need to create jobs for these people, somehow. Not everyone can work at a Walmart or be a dishwasher or a gas station attendant though.

While they're at it, they also have to keep telling the public whom is to be blamed for their misery. It ain't the blacks this time though.

Basically, local talent is equal or cheaper than H-1B in most cases because the ancillary expenditure for H-1B is higher. You need access to lawyers, immigration officers, visa fees, support personnel etc. But if the H-1B wages are increased, then the small companies will slowly get shut out of the H-1B options. It will directly impact the startup market in the US. Which means the startups will have to move base to other countries to acquire cheaper talent, like Canada or even India.

Many people calling for reform believe that this tech-crunch is created by H1-B misuse by Indians specifically.

That's BS. If that were the case, then why are there so many STEM vacancies? The tech-crunch is because Americans are not opting for STEM courses. And that's because the govt has made loans so easily available that universities have increased course fees and made it unaffordable to most people.

In India, the yearly fees for a Bachelor's engineering seat for a good student can be anywhere from $60 to $800. And then some of these guys get paid $70-85000 per year in the US through H-1B for just holding a Bachelor's degree. Talk about profit margin. The cheap Bachelor's allows Indians to get better educated and also allows them to pursue over-priced Master's in the US.

Most of the Indian employees with H-1Bs have only Bachelor's.

So in many cases they are actually getting overpaid for their degrees.

When the "American Company" contracts a outsourcing company, The American company invests in training the employees of the contractor. If the contractor employees quit, the (outsourcing )contractor company may still be in profit, but the American company has to invest in the training all over again. this results in a low skill( relatively and comparatively ) employees working for it. Always replacing employees is no company wants ( except the OUTSOURCING contractors , since they keep what they pay to outsourced employees low )..

American companies do not invest in the training of employees, the outsourcing companies do.

So basically, it's up to the outsourcing company how they handle their employees. It makes no difference to the American company whether the outsourcing company has more or less attrition as long as the service agreement is met.

Walmart only has a couple thousand H-1B employees brought in over a decade. They probably have only a few hundred H-1Bs today.

Well. I have been to the data centers...... not just one but a few.

this is one example - some were just on phones speaking to gf/families and nothing to do, at one project, i saw around 20people put small room sharing a table at MTN; this in around 8 rooms. MTN thought they were getting a great deal with so many resources to find it did not amount to much; 1.5 yrs later threw out TCS and brought back DiData. these were from TCS; numerous examples of slave labour; then the practises on circumventing visas rules.

And I don't know what you mean by "one table". Is that 20 people with 20 computers on one table, or is it like a conference table and they are just having a chat? If they are sitting with 20 computers on one table, then that's a pretty gigantic table.

Actually...i wish US stop or comoletely shut down H1b program....Trust me, Indian IT companies will get additional 30% of the business to be done in offshore immidiately....The noise about abuse of H1b is going on since decades....The reason US Gov can not stop is not because of their choice rather compulsion by their own greedy corporates who got habituated to get the work done in less money..
You are absolutely right, one of the guys here worked for Emerson. They had a problem of getting quality workers in USA.

You are absolutely right, one of the guys here worked for Emerson. They had a problem of getting quality workers in USA.

Actually if US Gov stops H1b then India gov should really say thank you to US president..
It will make all the Indian companies rich with multiple contracta from US corporates...
