Gwadar-Kashghar Motorway

Finances are determined by cold hard facts, not by beliefs or emotions.

Tell me based on what cold hard fact do you conclude that Pakistan is incapable to secure finances for a billion dollar project over say the next 7 years?

If I show you just 1 billion dollar plus project being executed right now, would you agree that we can secure finances for the trade corridor?

Alright, you win. So when can I drive on this motorway all the way to Kashgar? :D

For now you can enjoy the drive on the Islamabad-Faislabad section or Makran coastal if you like, by 2015 you can enjoy the Islamabad-Multan too. I need to see the project estimate for the whole corridor but I am guessing around 2020-2022 or so you might be able to enjoy the drive all the way to Kashgar. :)

My point is that even the existing roadwork is in bad shape, let alone dreaming of mega-projects like this.

The ones i mentioned are not in bad shape.

Yes, the N5 that goes from Karachi to Peshawar is at different areas in bad shape. But then it is heavily used. That's why a Motorway is need of the hour.

I m surprise to see those Indians here who try to teach us about our country, and at the end many even dont know what Pakistan have and what we don't have. As for this road project China have initiated it and it means that its in their great interest due to which they want that road to be build and some Indian are telling us that there is no use due to snow, please keep away from our internal issues as we don't went into yours and dont teach us about things which we know well. Pakistanis are operating over Karakoram high way for decades and we have build it with China and INSHALLAH we will build this one too.

LOL. Will that be before or after the IP pipeline? Or the Kalabagh dam or the Bhasha-Diamer dam? Or may be the next round of IMF begging? Or the bullet train? Or before or after ..... oh never mind.

I hope you are correct. :D

Napoleon was Pakistani? :D

Need of the hour and the day it might be, but where is the financing going to come from? The same source as the IP pipeline? Oh wait, there is no money, is there?

Now you are being dishonest:

Kalabagh dam political issue. IP was a political issue, now it's half political and half pricing issue contrary to what is generally believed. Bullet train was an election gimmick nobody talked about it after election.

Better question would be, would it be before or after neelum-jehlum power plant or chushnupp3/4. Diamir bhasha will come online around the same time though:)

Hey look at all these incompetent Chinese speakers talking about the impossible Pakistan-China trade corridor:

Pak-China Economic Corridor to bring opportunities for Chinese Speakers

Asian Development Bank, World Bank, Islamic Bank etc. Then there are state owned Chinese banks for this exact purpose. Some loan out money for Oil/Petro Chemical projects. Others for Civilian infrastructure. They are always willing to provide funding.

IP Pipeline is a different issue. Banks cannot loan out their depositors money for projects that are or may be sanctioned. (Not that they don't want to)

The first order of the day is to increase government revenue through widening of tax base. Make those who don't pay. Pass the laws and implement them.

You need to show banks or any creditor that you have a feasible plan in place and that you can pay back the money. Paying late is more acceptable than not being able to pay at all.

The Motorway on the current N5 route (Karachi-Multan) would pay for itself very quickly as usually these are toll charged and see heavy traffic.

That's what KESC did. They kept increasing the prices of electricity in Karachi after getting privatized. However, they were able to turn a profit after a long time. The CEO of KESC said, as long as we are in the profits, we can ask for loans and hence increase our generation capacity. That benefits all. More electricity = more productivity (ideally)

The Electricity situation in Karachi is much better now than it was 5-8 years ago.

A motorway costs approximately a million dollars per mile. Say, if Pakistan somehow manages this at one fourth of this cost, where is this money coming from?

Depends... if politicians are in rule IMF would be keen to give loan.
