Just looking at the geographic positioning of gwadar, who was it meant to serve? Afghanistan or Pakistan, because Karachi is not that far and it probably would be better if ships docked there because of the population , infratructure and industry. Around Gwadar there is nothing.

Gwadar port gives a immense strategic advantage to pakistan being 400 km away from indian territory, and an alternative to karachi port in war scenario.
