Gwadar - a port full of possibilities

Who knows Pakistan already have ICBM. But unlike some other countries we cant take risk of exposing and testing these toys atleast for now. The world media will make a hype of this issue you know how the world media works and do propaganda.

Time is not right for Pakistan to test such thing.
Obama threatened Pakistan with attacks if you resisted the operation against Bin Laden. Pakistan can be strong only if you have the bravery and determination to be strong instead of giving in to corruption. You guys can learn a thing or two from Iran. They have a much smaller population than Pakistan yet can punch above their weight.

.
It is just a business deal of port operations and tens of such deals are made everyday around the world Pakistani media loves to hype up things for viewer rating nothing else.

Exactly my point. Gwadar is only a partly utilized post as of now, with no good rail or road connections to the rest of Pakistan, let alone across the Karakorams to China. Even KKH is closed due to the landslide that made Attabad Lake, and there no no tangible plans to run a pipeline across them to deliver oil to China, as some people here are claiming.

right, gwadar has been under performing now a days so its not that of a hype, if gwadar performs tomorrow because of chinese investment and tries to threaten the dubai port and other gulf ports then gwadar will become important, gwadar is just a potential prospect which can be played to the full potential or the credibility of such gwadar hype will be proved wrong

Potential means nothing unless utilized. We have just seen the reality behind the recent tall claims of $45 billion investment. I am afraid that the reality behind all these claims of the great importance of Gwadar will prove to be just as false.

Why would India need a middleman to trade with China? China certainly doesn't think so:

China's far-western Xinjiang region is in favour of establishing direct trade links over land with India and Afghanistan to avoid routing trade through third party countries such as Pakistan, officials have said.

A top official of China's far-western Xinjiang region told reporters that the lack of land ports linking China to India and Afghanistan was hampering cross-border economic ties, making a case for greater connectivity.

“By having two-way trade through a third country, it is difficult for the development of two-way trade,” said Shi Dagang, Vice-Chairman of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region government, speaking ahead of the start of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit meeting in Beijing on Wednesday.

India did make a mistake pulling out of the pipeline.Although I agree their relations with U.S is more important, but energy security is one thing you can't ignore,it's a matter of national security.G.W Bush administration convinced India by helping it to develop Nuclear power plants for India,in exchange for pulling out from this project.Imo,it was a mistake.India is a friend of us,so as Pakistan and China.Everyone could benefit from this project. It could be a Win-Win-Win-Win situation where Iran,Pakistan,India and China win. :P

See, the mistake of our pulling out, as well as the stupid vote against Iran at IAEA, are all a result of the corrupt and poisonous leadership we have at present. They are intent on selling India to the West, but enough groups in India gave harsh opposition to those and other moves that they'll likely lose the next election. It seems when we had independent leaders, you had Shah of Iran, now after your revolution our leaders are aspiring to be slaves of the west.

Definitely agree that an energy security framework in this region is the way to go. But this can only happen after a concerted effort by our people to kick out negative external influence which impedes our progress. Iran and China are okay on this front, but we still have quite a way's to go in the subcontinent.

That because China has direct land connect to India and Afghanistan but I can't say the same if India want to trade with Afghanistan, you still need the middleman which is Pakistan.

its not about strategic depth by supporting iran pakistan pipeline, its about more economics, pakistan economy is declining and we are trying to buy expensive gas through iran, iran isnt supporting our economy by making hefty price demands, its just using pakistan for its own benefits and using pakistan because of its urgent needs

iran has been sanctioned by the world thats why iran is looking very desparate for making some inroads to its economy through business

its just a pure business nothing else

as for gwadar it should be all about economics then politics, if china is looking to use gwadar as its strategic depth then its harming pakistan rather helping, economy should be the priority first rather then strategic depth

I don't see any harm if China use it as a stratigic outpost. Either economic or stratigic growing importance per se of this port location is the best interest of Pakistan.

We can secure economic interest,a window to grow our industry capability, key infrastructures, a road map of central Asia, more stratigic importance, and even a remote region.

.
Transferring good part of Afghan trade and future oil/gas terminal from central asia could make the port promising. Besides, post 2014 Pakistan own trade would have chance to grow. Cumulation of these activities presents bright future. Important part is to develop backend infrastructure like expressway and rail connection.

everything is possible. but at current situation, everything is in doubt. China is just an external factor, Pakistan is the key.

( 86% Pakistanis support China and view them favourably - the highest China favourability in any nation, globally ).

Too bad the same amount of Chinese don't view Pakistan in the same light, though one can't really blame them for that perception, the whole world views Pakistan through a negative window.

When will Pakistanis learn to stand up on their own two feet instead of being lackeys of one power to another, hoping that someone else will hold them by the leash and guide them from their misery and weak position.

No one will change this country until its own people change themselves.

If Pakistan has 86% favorable view of China. Than I suspect this could be higher than even Chinese view of China. I'm certain that this is higher than American view of America. Its an amazing number. For me, I'm ashamed of America now with the socialist Obama and the neocons running the white house and the congress.

If you're taking a poll from those Chinese that have no clue where Pakistan is, those keep busy of making out of Indian :omghaha:or those have no clue of the geopolitic than I'm not surprise of the result. but I believe that most of Chineses in this forum have a favorited view & support Pakistan because we're well aware of the situation :azn:.

Chineses nowaday are more motivate to make money than politic so the poll is just BS. And no matter how the world views Pakistan at least China is always stand on Pakistan side since the first day of diplomacy.

Many Chinese that understand geopolitics will always support Pakistan. For the people that don't know how the world operates...they are just clueless.
