Four women aid workers were gunned down on Monday in the Mirali area of North Waziristan, police said, as a fresh wave of extremist violence rattles the region.

The aid workers were ambushed by two gunmen as they were driving through a village in North Waziristan district, according to local police chief Shafiullah Gandapur, who said just one passenger survived the assault.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far but it was surely an act of terrorism,” he told AFP.

Gandapur said the aid workers were affiliated with a programme run by a local institute to develop household skills for women.

The incident and death toll was confirmed by Rasul Khan, another local police official.

Separately, Gandapur said in a statement that the driver of the vehicle was also injured in the attack.

He added that a search and strike operation was being carried out in the Mirali tehsil of the district to trace and arrest the terrorists.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan issued a statement, condemning the attack and demanding that the perpetrators be brought to book.

The tribal areas along the Afghan border remain notorious for the availability of cheap guns, narcotics and smuggled goods.

Attacks have decreased in recent years following a series of military offensives against homegrown and foreign militants.

In 2014, the army launched a massive operation to wipe out militant bases in North Waziristan aimed at ending a near decade-long insurgency that cost thousands of lives.

But militant groups are still able to carry out sporadic, isolated assaults.

A recent surge in attacks targeting security forces along the Afghan border has sparked fears that these groups may be regrouping.
To weak to attack men with weapons so they go for unarmed women.

We have given the dossier full of evidence of India and Afghanistan's support of terrorism. It is now a matter of whether our leadership has the balls to act against Indian terrorist camps.
Ball less leadership

Primary reason was being a soft and readily available target... They were running a vocational institute for local women.
What is an average lifecycle for actionable intel?

I think that too is lost upon folks here. There is no iron curtain in the Hindukush and things do get through - if the green zone in Baghdad can have issues then the pretty rogue areas of the northwest and Baluchistan can.

At the height of Rehman Maliks’s where’s waldo shenanigans, I made a much decried estimate stating we have 0.05% of the population essentially terror recruits due to their background of which 0.5% will convert into one given the right atmosphere.
0.05% of approx 45 million males between the ages of 15-30 is 2250000, 0.5% of which is 112500.
I still stand by that assertion that a near large army in potential readymade terrorists exists in Pakistan. You dont have all converting due to either inefficient, misidentified or prevented recruitment and alternative employment opportunities available so what Pakistan gets is out of that process. Then we can mix in the Afghan refugees and other misled lots here for “education“
That still compares favorably to many areas of Europe’s(especially France) government abandoned neighborhoods where the ratio of extremists is fairly high.

In all of this, our standing intelligence community (with its own inter-agency process inefficiencies and resource limitations ) is expected by these “casual expert” observers to provide 99% accuracy in detection and prevention against what are essentially every Gul, Shabbir or Dilawar one sees in the street. Many of which are released back into the system by a rotten judicial system and supported by vested political and bureaucratic interests.

Bani Israel really have a successor nation here.

Western neighbor, of Pakistan, is the modern day Bani Israel. :D

If you believe in Sahih Hadiths then you'll know that they'll also fight the modern day Israelis when the Mahdi comes...

The stage is being set for that, as soon as US troops leave, the region will push forward, get better & stronger than ever before. InShaAllah.

And that is exactly what the Pakistani leadership and awaam fail to see...

You see a threat. I see a opportunity. A opportunity to turn this tide against India....through Kashmir.

And that is exactly what India has achieved....by keeping the tide towards us. By seizing this opportunity, that could very well have been used against it too if not for our small minded leadership. It's a double edged sword after all.

We could have easily been sending the "terrorists" to Kashmir each year for the past 21 years since WoT started...

All the casualties Pakistan has sustained since 2000 could have been Indian casualties...and more.

But the opportunity is still there, only if the leadership realizes that it's a opportunity and not a curse...

Every nation interprets the Hadiath to their own self aggrandizement - and I see a delusional opportunity shown by history to be fallacy in supporting extremist and cruel ideals for some pie in the sky dystopian warfare idea against India.

As if somehow the 40000 Pakistani deaths were justified because these snakes could be tamed.

Snakes can be tamed....Indians are professional at that. I don't have to share a YouTube Indian snake charmer video to convince you now, do I? :D

Snakes have their uses......only this time, like Siachen and many other debacles, India beat us to the punch.

This world is a cruel place. The law of the jungle dictates that whoever is the most ruthless wins. You wanna be a nice guy?? Well, look no further than the ruins of Mohenjo-Daro. Those folks were nice too I heard. Too bad being nice in this world leads you to being dead...

That's Pakistan's future too if it doesn't get its head out of the sand...

The snake charmers are getting angry at their snakes dying and might as well get in on the action, instead of using more snakes. :D

Why India never had this ongoing gun and bomb violence like Pakistan?

Are we different people, a different race?

Don't we have large pockets of very disgruntled population that's fertile recruiting terror fodder ground?

What do you think? I have my theories. Indirect taxes being added to that list since yesterday.

Cheers, Doc

Cuz Pakistani leadership....to be frank....is a bitch who's too afraid to be ruthless, like India, Israel or the US...

Someone needs to light the fire. Ingredients are always there...but they can't assemble themselves into a fiery reaction if no one gives the initial impetus for a reaction. ;)

But like we did Bluestar, you pretty much did the equivalent in Lal Masjid.

Around 5 odd years back here (maybe more?) there was this massive military operation to clean out the NW region Zarb e something?

Cheers, Doc

Yes, there was and still ops going against terrorism. Bluestar eliminated any threat to India.....Lal Masjid incident just led to increasing amount of terrorism in Pakistan...

But we lost our PM and General to that.

It's not as if Pakistan hasn't lost PMs and Generals violently too.

What about guns? Is there a belief that those are the last stand option against the neighbor and are therefore ignored, even silently encouraged?

Cheers, Doc

Taking the example of Hazrat Umar..... In this case as well, the government is always responsible for anything good or bad happening in its area.... One cannot shy away from this responsibility.....

I wish our Generals and Leaders also have 0.01% of the honor and decency Hazrat Umar Khattab RA has.

The blood of thousands of soldiers and civilians gone to waste. Thanks Gen Bajwa for sending this province back to the good old days of TTP.
