Gulf states are currently studying the possibility of establishing the biggest water and gas desalination center west of Yemen, in the area of Moon Bay, at an estimated cost of $ 200 billion.
Adel Al-Bakeli, Yemen’s permanent representative at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, revealed that a Yemeni delegation traveled to Riyadh last month to discuss details of the project with their Saudi counterparts.

Speaking on the sidelines of a symposium organized by the Middle East Center for Strategic Studies, Al- Bakeli said, “The new project will provide four million jobs for Yemenis within the next ten years and is associated with the railway project.”

“The density and level of salinity in the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea is very high,” he said, clarifying that the geography around the Moon Bay area, which separates Muhrah area from Hadramout, contains the most appropriate water characteristics for desalination.

Al-Bakeli indicated that the project is expected to be the largest center for water and gas desalination in the Gulf. He also revealed that the biggest complex of Western industries will be constructed in Sheikh Said area in the city of Aden, south of Yemen, adding that 17 percent of these projects will be strategic and aim to compete with Chinese industries in the Asian markets.
Meanwhile, the Yemeni representative said the strategic vision of the Gulf countries highlights the expanding role of Yemen from a partial member in the various Gulf organizations to a more active membership by 2019.

The Saudi-Yemeni Business Council is also conducting a study concerning the establishment of a mutual economic zone on the borders of the two countries, which will facilitate the movement and volume of trade.

This is very good news. Seeing even greater cooperation with brotherly and fellow Arab nations on our beautiful Arabian Peninsula. I am very happy about this and other projects.

Yemen is still a somewhat underdeveloped country in terms of the industry. But to be honest I somewhat like it that way. I mean I like that the culture is so strongly retained and protected. Obviously positive changes/better economy is welcome but as always there will come negatives with this as well.

I also hope that Eastern Africa will get more stable since they have a huge potential and could be a direct contact to the huge and emerging markets of entire Africa.

I think that Africa has a huge potential and they deserve more success.

Yemen could play an even more strategic role then they do already being on the cross-roads of the Middle East/Africa and not far away from South Asia. Oman as well.

Right now a more stable government is needed and creation of jobs for the youth. Many of the very best Yemenis are emigrating to other countries.

Yemen deserves all the best.

Also everything will improve greatly once Yemen enters GCC which is just a question of a few years. Although I do not doubt that the special charm, unique and ancient architecture, culture etc. will be kept and protected. At least I hope so.

Yemen has a enormous potential in many fields. Just in terms of tourism it could be among the very best in Asia and the world. Already many millions visit it even considering that some of the areas are somewhat insecure. It is a very unique place as all that have visited it testify to that.

Yemenis are also very hardworking people and merchants/businessmen by nature. Yemeni emigration from Morocco to the East and Indonesia to the East is a proof of this. Millions Arabs/people with Yemeni roots are very successful people across the world.

In KSA many of the leading business families/successful persons have ancestral ties to Yemen.

Yemen was a pioneer on many fronts in the Arab world/Middle East civilizations since ancient times and even fairly recently.

Yemenis are very independent and strong people so a strong government will need to balance this out.

Moreover many Yemenis also live in the past and praise their ancient history and former glories forgetting that the past is not all important today but that it AT MOST could give inspiration for improving the current situation. Yemen is not the only country with that "problem".

Insha'Allah all the negative things will improve with time so Yemen can shine even more - this time also in terms of industries and stability, competent government etc. as well.

I somewhat disagree. Tradition and development must go together. Yemen needs serious economic development. It has untouched resources that could transform its fate, but it needs a push.

Its Yemen's decision if it wants to go the way of the emirates or others in the region as far as culture is concerned.
