Gulf states lambast Syria, Iran

Meeting urges international community to help protect civilians from Al Assad regime

Arab countries in the Gulf on Sunday lambasted Syria’s regime for deploying heavy weapons against civilians while telling Iran in no uncertain terms that they would not tolerate meddling in their internal affairs.

The six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) at a meeting in Jeddah also urged the international community to “assume their responsibilities and take measures to protect civilians” in Syria, where according to a watchdog more than 26,000 people have been killed in a revolt that erupted in March, 2011.

The GCC in a statement issued after the meeting in the western Saudi city condemned “the ongoing massacres which are due to the obstinacy of the regime in using heavy weapons, including planes and tanks” against civilians.

The Gulf states ordered Iran to halt its “interference” in their internal affairs, citing an incident at the opening of the Non-Aligned Movement in Tehran when an official interpreter reportedly replaced the word “Syria” with “Bahrain” in a speech by Egyptian President Mohammad Mursi.

The GCC statement asked Tehran to “cease these acts and not resort to or threaten to use force”.

Bahrain had earlier issued a statement saying it had “requested the Iranian government apologise for this act, and take the necessary action to correct the breach and ensure that actions like this one don’t happen again”.

Relations between Tehran and Manama have been rocky over Iran’s vocal criticism of Bahrain’s crackdown on anti-government protests. There is no love lost either between Saudi Arabia and Iran, which has criticised Saudi military involvement in putting down the Bahrain protests and flooding the world market with its oil. The GCC comprises Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait.

Saudi Arabia, a close US ally, supports the rebels in Syria fighting to overthrow the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad. Iran is Al Assad’s biggest ally and has pledged him full support in his fight.

Tehran, however, accuses Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey of arming and financing the Syrian rebels.

All the Gulf states are loaded with latest toys - a logical question.
Why isnt the GCC shield taking action? OK Syria is not in GCC but humanitarian crisis calls for help and after all it is GCC which has max concern for Syria.

That statement made me laugh:rofl:, you just said that The West cares about Syrian people, or just people in the middle east in general.

GCC goal is to destroy Syria. enough said.

KSA has long been calling for military intervention and Saudi foreign minister Saud Al-Faisal vowed that KSA will be the spear head of any military operations. However, KSA or GCC can't carry on such an attack for legal, geographical, military, and political reasons. Nevertheless, without GCC massive media support, financial aids, arms transfer and political support, Syrian revolution would had been repressed by now.

I don't think so. Russia is no match to the west, it's economy still fragile like any other developing country economy. In fact, GCC and KSA in specific increased oil production to reduce oil price to pressure Russia regarding Syria, knowing that Russia major income comes from oil and gas export. It's military is no match to the western armies as well. Most of it's equipment still old. People don't know that India has far more numbers of T-90 and Su-30 than Russia itself.

ppl like syrian lion are paid mouth pieces of the terrorist assad regime.

Belive me syria has made a lot of enemies and all want it gone, it wont survive 4 long,

The Russians will never jeopardize there own security for assad's wet dream.

they r there just to play enough with the west and then they will vanish in thin air, they will provide all the logical support till then

assad is sitting on a bed of thorns and russia is the audience that are clapping 4 this lets see how long can he resist.

They can, but they are too cowardly to attempt it. Unlike in Afghanistan, where the boss ordered jihadis to be trained and sent.
In fact, FSA only need weapons, which until this day they are severally under equipped.

No they can't, I am being realistic while you are being sentimental.
