Gripen for Bangladesh?

Myanmar provides both gas and access to BoB & Indian Ocean to China. Bangladesh does not have a direct border with China and cannot provide neither of them. You would be naive to think China would support Bangladesh against Myanmar in case of a war.

1) First off, I doubt China would support anyone in case of war, and would rather try to stay neutral and mediate the situation.

2) The chances of Bangladesh waging a war is almost negligible. We are a civilized people, and the country was built on the aspiration of being "Switzerland of the east", and even if we may have an authoritarian state with ethnic strife and severe human rights violations on our border, the question of conflict is very slim.

1) Every country works for their own interests. Protecting Myanmar is in China's interest.

2) Your planned procurement of fighters is to use them in case of a war. Bangladesh may desire peace but if Myanmar thrusts war on Bangladesh with the Rohingya genocide and ethnic cleansing then Bangladesh would be forced to fight the war.

Sure, China has interests in Myanmar, but it also does in Bangladesh. China knows that in the future, Bangladesh will be a big player in the world economy as the country continues to industrialise. It definitely does not want Bangladesh to delve in India's sphere of influence and have it alienated from China.

As for the procurement plan, much is being done to modernise the armed forces, and have a potent defensive capability, like any other country of its size. Without any hostile neighbours, we would still arm ourselves, as is the norm in most parts of the world. The mass general public in Bangladesh didn't even think of Myanmar before the Rohingya crisis, starting from post 2010s. Unlike in Burma, where they fear "Bengali Muslim domination" of their country, we don't have any such irrational fears of the Burmese. Most of us, would like to see the Rohingya situation be resolved peacefully and diplomatically, like our past maritime boundary situation was.

What you fail to understand is China needs Myanmar while Bangladesh needs China. If you cannot grasp this simple truth then non one can help you.

Sounds like you are the one who needs help. Get out of your wet dreams.

China taking side for Myanmar? lol

What do you think the Chinese are? China's dominance in the region will be doomed if a BD-MM war breaks out. They will do everything to prevent it. If even a war breaks out they will stay away from taking sides openly. There is no special love for Mogs. China is the master of MM, not friend. Sooner these Bamar Mogs realise this truth, the better.

And this is off topic here. Stay on topic
