Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon on Saturday said that the present Government has been relentlessly striving for expansion and modernisation of rail lines to bring the entire country under rail connectivity.

The minister said railway is a national asset and termed it as the best mode of easy and safe transportation even in any natural disaster.

The Railway Minister made the remark in a press briefing after visiting alignment (Bridge no-10) of the Khulna-Mongla Railway project from Fultala Railway Station to Mohammadnagar Railway Station this afternoon.

Sujon said it will help to play a vital role in the development of economy of the country’s south-western region.

“Connectivity between Bangladesh with India, Nepal and Bhutan will enhance and the three foreign countries will get benefits with the export and import of products at a cheaper cost by using the rail lines,” he said.

He, however, said after opening Khulna-Mongla Railway line, huge employment will be created, the tourism sector will flourish side by side the country will fetch huge revenues.

The construction work of 5.13 kilometres long Railway line on Rupsha River was 100 per cent completed while 98.05 per cent has been completed from Fultola Station to Mohammadnagar Station, said the minister adding that the remaining works will be completed by October 31.

He also said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate Khulna-Mongla Railway line on November 9.

Besides, the project has nine platforms, 107 small bridges and nine underpasses.

The construction work for the Khulna-Mongla Railway line should have been awarded to Chinese companies instead of Indian companies. China has made huge investment in our railway system and technology wise they beat the Indian companies fair and square.

This will be used by India and primarily for transit purpose and funded from Indian line of credit if not mistaken. So here you see Indian contractors are involved as it’s a clause of the contract. Due to that it was not possible to grant the contract to China.

India is giving loan to Bangladesh to build this rail network which will be used exclusively by India where Bangladesh has to return the loan money with interest. So the question is, how is Bangladesh going to be benefitted from this transit deal with India?

Any infrastructure built for India benefits your people too. You get cheap goods. Efficiency is improved and you can import cotton in bulk. If the rail lines are electric then no pollution. Right now most of the trucks from India to BD come back empty. Bilateral trade is 17 billion dollars and is bound to grow if Rupee Taka settlement is adopted. It is one sided in favor of India and is the reason for resentment.

We don't want to import cotton from you because you use it as a political tool.
I agree. But you have to import from somewhere? China does not have vast arable lands.

This will be used by Nepal, Bhutan as well for transit purpose via India.

Bangladesh is supposed to be benefited by transit fees but it’s been set so low that no chance of getting benefited by it.

That idiot Mullah thinks, anything built with Indian money goes for Indian use though BD is a sovereign country.

But, the same mulla does not think so if it is Chinese money. Very low bred mullah.

Bangladesh has started importing cotton from China and the USA.

Can you imagine that Hasina let India get the transit deal with a fee of Tk.192 per ton whereas the committee for transit deal proposed to charge India a fee of Tk.1058 per ton.

Some mother f*ucker from Japan with a primary school education thinks he is an economist. Due to lack of proper education he landed in Japan to work as a domestic help for a Japanese middle class owner.

Where are the factories in BD where rly lines, fish plates, nuts & bolts, signalling equipment, railway coaches, goods trains/ coaches, engines and thousands of other components will be produced?

How he is going to create a rly network without producing the parts listed above?

The Saidpur factory produces no such things except doing some repairing works. Our rly minister has little knowledge on the components.

He may be thinking a rly line is not needed on the ground and his trains will run on the air.

Bloody idiot BA l minister, build these infrastructure first, then talk about spreading railway to every house.

You should increase and assess the impact. If you charge 5 times that amount, then is your infrastructure up to the task. Do you have people in place to provide speedy services.
My understanding is that very little transit is done through BD because of bottle necks. Hopefully you will use the $7 billion credit line to improve your infrastructure.

Since you are a part of China BRI , you should boycott Indian business. But if you take Indian money then we have every right to make you use Indian businesses.
