Govt to shut down Air India, MTNL, HMT & few sick units

Great news these companies need to shut down immediately

Closing down is not a good move, govt should sell them as entity. Think about how this will effect thousands of lives( morally speaking)...
Financially speaking...the infrastructure is there, all u need is proper management, employes are there, renegotiate their contracts. Companies will have an upper hand, take new contracts or leave job. most people will stick around. It will be a win-win for everyone.

Many Indians on PDF don't understands the basic thing that " Govt. is to run the country and not a business."
Govt. must restrict itself to collection of tax and providing law and order to the nationals.
Best possible way is to sell of the majority stakes in those PSUs along with the management controlled. Govt. can have a minority stakes in those companies.

.
Why do you think they did so? Take a guess.
Because they are Not Skilled And Updated to their Standards So, What the Point they should have Trained them but they Made thousand of workers Unemployed in one stroke
That's precisely what they should be concerned about. Many PSUs are loss making machines, which is why they ought to be shut down.
Profit ---> People get richer.
Loss ----> People get poorer.
so is Social Schemes Like Manrega Nerga So Govt should Stop that to
PSU Like NTPC Make Electricity Cheap for Consumers By making Losses this Shall Be also Stop
So is LPG & Gas Subsidy And Govt Make People Make to pay Real Price to Consumer

No. By my logic, loss making PSUs should be privatized, especially when there are private companies that do a much better job. If that PSU is doing a good job I wouldn't want to privatize it, at least not as a priority.

BTW, do you know that in countries where everything is private including the production and transmission of electricity, there is usually never a village or town that doesn't get power 24/7/365? In the USA, electricity is delivered by corporations like PG&E, Comed etc. Most people never experiences a power failure in their lives, and there is no home without power. There is no way the govt can run a business that effectively. Here after 65+ years of independence, the govt has not finished connecting all villages to the electricity grid, forget about continous supply.
ohh First of All Get over with your Western Fetish Marked My words india Can't Be USa
We have Principles Govt is Social Entity they should work for the 24x7.Main Motive of these PSU is to Work Public Well-fare
If they are working efficiently, they should make a profit on their own, and shouldn't get a revival package from the taxpayers. Do private companies get revival packages at taxpayers' expense?
No there are Many Factors Involved They Not Upgraded or Provided Training Par with Multinationals. There are Many Inside Moles of the Private Companies which Eaten Company Like Termite
I Make you suggestion Please Research More About MTNL Degradation Before Commenting Further I Work There As Intern During My Summer Intern ship I Was Come to Know about company from Inside and Problems I Have Seen there Management I Keen to work But Not Provided Proper Assistance.

vt. is to run the country and not a business."
Govt. must restrict itself to collection of tax and providing law and order to the nationals.
You Forget Govt is Also Social Entity And India is Not High HDI Country Majority of Indians Are Poor. Govt Main Purpose Was to create PSU is For Social Welfare.

MTNL submits revival plan to DoT, to invest Rs 805 cr as capex in 2015-16 | Business Standard News

State-run telecom major MTNL, which has been added in the list of sick PSUs, has submitted a revival plan to the department of telecommunications (DoT) for its consideration.

"We have submitted a revival plan to the DoT, which is under their consideration," a senior official from MTNL told Business Standard. The official, however, refused to share details of the revival plan.

Technically MTNL is not a sick company as it posted profits of Rs 7,821 crore in 2013-14, the official said. Though, the profit was on account of exceptional items/ write back of provisions on pensionary liabilities and spectrum amortization costs of Rs 11,621 crore.

It has been making operational losses for last three years.

The PSU is also planning to raise Rs 500 crore through a short term loan in the next fiscal for meeting its expansion needs. Overall, an amount of Rs 805 crore will go towards capital expenditure - for network upgradation and enhancing data services -- in 2015-16.

Yesterday, Minister for Heavy Industries Anant Geete in Parliament said Air India and MTNL have joined the list of sick central public sector enterprises (CPSEs). There were 65 units in the list of sick public sector units (PSUs) as of March 31, 2014.

"The reasons for their sickness vary from enterprise to enterprise and included obsolete plants and machinery, heavy interest burden, resource crunch, surplus manpower and shortage of working capital," he said.

A CPSE is declared sick after it has accumulated losses in any financial year equal to 50 per cent or more of its average net worth during four preceding years.

In a recent interview with Business Standard, the minister for communications and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad had said the government is not rushing into the merger of the two telecom PSUs - BSNL and MTNL.

"We are not rushing into the merger of the two. The first priority is to restore the financial health of both. For fair competition in the industry, one PSU has to be there in the field. Positive results will start showing within a year and we expect their full revival in the next two-three years. They have to become pro-active, pro-competitive and pro-consumer," he had said.

Sanghis selling country to corporates ,,,, helppppppppp

your point about private corporate houses is well taken.

Name one public sector undertaking that has thrived.

Air India is horrible. Sell the Air India routes under an open system to private Indian airlines.

Look no further than the government owned defense industrial companies
