Govt to provide 18 lakh new rural power connections in 4 yrs

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 3 (BSS) - State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Mohammad Enamul Haque today informed the House that the government has taken a project to provide 18 lakh rural power connections by next four years under the Rural Electrification Board (REB).
"Under the project, 48,000 km power supply lines will be setup in 453 upazilas under 70 Palli Biddut Samities," he said while replying to a question of treasury bench member Shamsur Rahman Sharif.
He said the government has approved the project on January 31 this year and it would be completed by December 2015.
Under the project, the state minister said the electricity
connection would be made as per population ratio of the upazilas.
"According to the pre-assessment, 100 km or more than that power
supply lines will be setup in each and every constituency of the
lawmakers," he added.
Replying to another query from Gholam Dastagir Gazi, the state minister said after assuming the power the present government has decided to set up 12 power stations under the REB.
Of the 12 power plants, six were commissioned and presently
supplying 150 MW power, he said, adding construction of one power
station is undergoing while agreements for other five stations are under processed.
