Govt. to buy warplanes: Syed Ashraf

also @Abingdonboy

The defence budget is 2.3 billion dollars but does NOT include arms purchases which come to around 1 billion dollars a year on average.

The budget is rising in line with GDP growth that is currently at 7% a year and so there is plenty of money for multi-billion dollar purchases since both Russia and China will accept payment spread over many years.
Fair enough but even $1BN/year CAPEX and $2.3BN OPEX is pretty modest in terms of defence spending. I'm not saying BD can't afford to buy a single Su-30- it can. But it won't be able to buy many and, crucially, the Su-30s are a known OPEX hog, they will drain your OPEX budget massively. It makes much more sense for the BDAF to go for a single engined light aircraft, it has no need for a heavy twin engined air superiority fighter.

BD needs around 24 Su-30s in order to both provide air-cover for it's Navy in the Bay of Bengal and also to protect it's maritime claims in the region.

I personally would like BAF to get 24 Su-30s and 48 J-10Bs but that probably wont happen with the current government in power.

Why are you arming with gunships suddenly? Counter insurgency problems?

We have UNPK roles to perform. But the tanks and multirole aircraft they are negotiating for are same as India's inventory. That raises many questions about the direction SHW/BAL govt is moving towards.

Very well. You're one of the largest UNPKF contributors so it makes sense.

Sukhois are a potent platform that pack a powerful punch in today's aerial scenarios.

It would make a lot of sense for Su-30s for you guys as you'd join the other Asian countries that are in the supply chain with us and Russians.

We value our pilots lives, so, no thanks.

Your choice but FYI Tejas has never crashed till date and you can clearly see its performance in the BIAS 2016.

Not possible, the Bangladesh armed forces have a moritorium on purchaseing weapon systems from india....even having a pro india government in power does not help. The senior ranks of the armed forces would never except it.

Any way we have other options, Russian or Chinese.

.
After learning the relation with Russia with Belarus and Ukraine it seems BD can rely on these two countries for spare and maintenance for most of the BD's Russian stuffs if any trust issue ever arisen.

We need to carefully avoid acquiring what is in Indian inventory. The reason is simple. India is our top most threat and we constantly equip ourselves and train to thwart any Indian aggression.

Do you have a link for this assertion?

We dominate you inside out (just look at who is running your country). You can't thwart anything if you tried.

History should have taught you we are not Bhutan. We are Muslim, and have been growing ever in this land for a thousand years. Pagan Banyas don't scare us.

Yah tell it to the old maid running your land on our behalf.

Crying from Canada just makes you look pathetic.

Just keep watching and whining Mr. Gibraltar. It will be quite amusing for the rest of us.

It is in our interests for you to buy rusty shoddy Chinese equipment (to study at our leisure if needed) and some Russian equipment when we give the all clear for it (since we already know it well and are well aware of the envelopes and limitations that the Bengali hobby military will then be getting).

At the same time the officers you send us for training are approached by RAW and implanted back in the hobby military to keep an eye on any other developments....mostly so you dont hurt yourselves with the imported equipment.

It's really childs play for us to manage your overpopulated swamp so its no threat.

Tejas first International customer getting ready :D

dont take this as a cheap jab - but your own air force refuses to induct them.....

I think , We are going to see Mig35 most likely

for your requirements JF-Thunder would have been a good option but we all know how that evil witch Prime Minister of yours would feel about it - even if an arrangement was made whereby PAC overseas none of the production or moneys from the sale.

at any rate the BAF is in dire need of modern air weaponry - albeit BD has been fortunate enough not to have any major regional threats. Mostly just humanitarian problems (e.g. Burma) and violence against BD citizens on the western border

You are someone in PDF with a title. Its a pity that you dont even follow International news.

Already 2 planes are with IAF. Its officially inducted. 8 more will be inducted this year. Squadron will be completed by next year. 120 aircrafts ordered.

I highly doubt that, but come back at me next year on this space if that actually happens.
