Fair enough but even $1BN/year CAPEX and $2.3BN OPEX is pretty modest in terms of defence spending. I'm not saying BD can't afford to buy a single Su-30- it can. But it won't be able to buy many and, crucially, the Su-30s are a known OPEX hog, they will drain your OPEX budget massively. It makes much more sense for the BDAF to go for a single engined light aircraft, it has no need for a heavy twin engined air superiority fighter.also @Abingdonboy
The defence budget is 2.3 billion dollars but does NOT include arms purchases which come to around 1 billion dollars a year on average.
The budget is rising in line with GDP growth that is currently at 7% a year and so there is plenty of money for multi-billion dollar purchases since both Russia and China will accept payment spread over many years.
