All the jockeying done by India seems to avoid dependence on a single supplier and extract the maximum technological benefits.

India wants the f-35 at the same terms the f-16 is being offered. USA wants to sell the f-16 at the price of f-35
this looks like a business negotiation to me

All the jockeying is not helping the IAF...I'm not complaining.

All this turmoil inside the USA due to current elections is covertly being pushed by Russia. USA is concerned about Russia as much as China. If India wants max USA tech it will have to dump Russia, IMO. Beside you can't expect a pilot to get out of a MiG 21 and jump into an F35 without hiccups. Lockheed and USA have rep to uphold.
