ISLAMABAD, June 21 (APP):Adviser to Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam Friday said the government was planning to set up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) dedicated for electric vehicles’ manufacturing with the assistance of Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

He made these remarks in a meeting held here with the global Electric Vehicles (EVs) manufacturers from China.

Amin, in a statement, said, “There is plenty of skilled to semi-skilled workforce in Kamra (Attock) the proposed site for the SEZ. Electric vehicles will not only bring reduction in environmental pollution but also minimize Pakistan’s oil import bill.

Currently Pakistan has more electricity supply than demand while government is paying to the power producers in terms of capacity. This makes the situation conducive for introducing electrical vehicles in the transport sector.”

Good China Did Same Thing Use Technological Capabilities Of It's SOEs We Should Too

. .
I hope sincere effort is made to bring this to fruition

.
I think we should not divert Paf attention from focusing on stealth fighter jet program and other airforce equipment production .This should be done by civil sector and govt should promote private sector for this. This is very high risky project and chances of success are limited considering our experience in car and lithium battery manufacturing .Joint venture with chinese company will be good option for this .

Pakistan has the market and china has over saturated technology(more than 1000 start ups), so if govt support this, it can be a revolution ..all we need is to get power sttions on GT & motorway and viola 50% population will get to it..alos just need to focus on major cities along the route..

the smog problem is goign to explode in ciites in future if we dont act now, weill have a dehli like problem

That's the way to go. At last we have far sighted intelligent advisors.

Oh bhai they know what they are doing. We are not Nepal to not have enough manpower, brains, or resources to not work on several projects at the same time. We are the 6th largest population wise and 7th largest military wise so we got plenty of brains to spare and no not all of them will be working on the same project ...

Yup I still remember the way every one converted to CNG when it was introduced for the vehicles. That was also an attempt to reduce reliance on oil imports but a poorly planned one.
All they need is to introduce cheaper kits for existing vehicles and then new vehicles which are relatively competitive with the existing ones if not cheaper and they got the attention of the public.

They are unable to develop indigenious helicopter and heavy bombers ,first they focus on development of these high technology weapons. In no other country the airforce is involved in car manufacturing including u.s , china and japan. It is job of govt and private sector .We have many young engineers in civil sector which are unemployed we can easily train them for this purpose and civil govt shall take responsibility for this and promote private sector for mass production by undergoing joint venture with chinese companies

We don't need heavy bombers yet. Our enemy is right next to us, not on the other side of the Globe for the time being.
And we don;t have the tech and funds to go wasting after helicopters instead of buying them.
For that we have to develop the tech base of the country as a whole. And those are not the domain of the Airforce either, which countries airforce do you know of that develops helicopters and bombers? Those are done by weapon manufacturers.

There is a difference between being able to do something and having the capacity for it.

Electric cars don't take re engineering stealth technology to make, nor do they need the most modern radar or avionics to function and be competitive. They are a simple project and under the command of the Airforce, they can finish it, instead of leaving it to the public and private sectors and let it go down the drains as so many other things end up at.

they have no history of carrying out any commercial project and even tesla is struggling to raise finance for electric vehicles and decreasing cost of manufacturing and they have much more expertise than Paf in this regard.Manufacturing good quality electric vehicle is not easy task and only few companies are able to manufacture good quality electric cars.Instead of wasting money on manufacturing low quality electric cars we should import them as bad quality cars will face loss in long run.Risk taking is good when your economy is good and have enough money t lose in case of failure but we cannot afford big risks due to poor economy

Everything about this policy is great except the "china" part, I don't live Pakistan's over dependence on China even in this field of electro vehicles. Pakistan government needs to work hard to bring diverse investments in this new field of electric mobility from not just Chinese companies but also European/Japanese/American electro vehicles companies. Ford, GM, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Volkswagen, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Renault etc. all are actively involved in developing new electro vehicle technologies and are willing to invest all over the world.
